15th Finance Commission visits Kerala

  • Kerala, the first state in southern India, to be visited by 15th Finance Commission from 28th to 31st May 2018.

Cloud enabled Data Centre at Bhubaneshwar

  • National Informatics Centre has set up a new state-of-the-art cloud enabled National Data Centre at Bhubaneswar.

Patratu Super Thermal Power Project

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the 2400MW first phase of NTPC’s Patratu Super Thermal Power Project in Jharkhand.
  • The project is a 74: 26 Joint Venture between Government of Jharkhand (GoJ) and Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (PVUN), a subsidiary company of NTPC establishing a total capacity expansion of 4,000MW.

Cyclone Mekunu

  • Cyclone Mekunu is expected to make landfall in Oman on 26.05.2018 morning. The cyclone, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), is also likely to affect the weather along India’s western coast.
  • The cyclone had earlier thrashed the Yemeni island of Socotra causing severe flooding and damage.

Yes Bank empanelled as Settlement Bank for NSE

  • Yes Bank has received approval from National Stock Exchange to be empanelled as ‘Settlement Bank’ for National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NSE.

LCU MK-IV ships

  • IN LCU L54 is the fourth Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy.
  • The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata.

Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) scheme

  • Under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) scheme, this project will ensure providing 24×7 power availability to the households.

Samagra Shiksha scheme

  • The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) launched an integrated scheme for school education from pre-school till Class 12 and promised to increase the budget for the entire school education next year by 20 per cent.
  • The new scheme, called “Samagra Shiksha”, is integration of three components Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) which took care of the school education at primary and secondary levels and Teacher Training will now be coalesced into one whole.
