Maharashtra

Government aids landless laborers to acquire land by paying only 5%

  • Landless among the SCs can now purchase acres of rainfed agricultural land or two acres of irrigated land by paying only 5% of the cost. The rest up to 8 lakh rupees will be born in by the state government.
  • The scheme was launched with the aim to uplift the livelihood of the laborers belonging to the Schedule Caste and Nav Buddhist people who belonged to the Below Poverty Line sector.

A page from Karl Marx’s manuscript sold for $5,23,000

  • A single page from one of Karl Marx’s manuscript, which is said to be a part of the first draft of his famous book Das Kapital, has been sold for a whopping $5,23,000 at an auction.
  • The manuscript is one of the 1,250 pages of notes Marx made in London from September 1850 to August 1853, based on which he wrote the first draft of Das Kapital.

DNA hunt for Loch Ness monster

  • A global team of scientists plans to scour the icy depths of Loch Ness next month using environmental DNA (eDNA) in an experiment that may discover whether Scotland’s fabled monster really does, or did, exist.
  • The use of eDNA sampling is already well established as a tool for monitoring marine life like whales and sharks.
