Local Holiday For Salem – District Collector Announced: In Tamil Nadu, during Aadi (Tamil Month) many temple functions are celebrated across the state and it is considered as one of the holy month according to the Hindu society people. Recently, Salem district collector Mr. Karmegam declared a holiday on August 9 due to the yearly festival in Kottai Marriammam Temple.
The collector also declared a holiday on August 3, 2023, to commemorate the memorial day of Dheeran Chinnamali and to celebrate the ‘Aadi-18’ festival. The 18th day of Aadi month has considered as one of the important days in the Hindu religion and many rituals have been done on that day.
Dheeran Chinnamalai is one of the freedom fighters who has then fought against the Mysore government for collecting taxes in the Kongu region. His birth name was Theerthagiri, he got the name ‘Chinnamali’ since then he stopped the tax collection between Chinnamalai and Sivanmalai regions.
