On the advice of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, the Minister of Municipal Administration request of implementation of the Urban Employment Scheme in the Corporation for the year 2021-22 announced. Municipality and municipal regions with the goal of improving the urban poor’s living conditions. The Government has allotted 100 crore to implement this scheme in two zones.
Following that, two economically depressed zones in the Chennai Corporation, Thandayarpet and Thiru.V.K Nagar, were chosen as pilot projects for this scheme. Total of Rs.75 crore has been allocated for work on the urban employment scheme in these two zones under the Corporation of Chennai. Under this scheme a manpower of Rs.382 per working day is fixed if the work allotted in Chennai Corporation is completed.
In this Scheme, 28,006 persons in Thandayarpet Zone and 1,055 persons in Thiruvikanagar Zone have been issued identity cards for employment to a total of 47062 persons. Out of a total of 3032 manpower days in the Thandayarpet zone and 3135 manpower work days in the Thiru.V.Kanagar zone are involved.
Officers have been required to use at least 100 people per day to complete rainwater drainage work in each ward in these two zones. Concerned corporation officials and council members have been asked to visit and inspect the work.
