Indian e-Commerce Firms Hire Massive Amount of Delivery Workers – Shopping Season is the Reason? All India’s leading e-commerce companies are reportedly planning to create jobs to address the labor shortage in the coming months. That means, as the upcoming months are filled with some festive season. On considering this e-commerce companies have enthusiastically started the process of hiring enough people to meet the requirements across the country.
As such, these employment announcements have come out amid a tight job market across the country. Accordingly, India’s unemployment rate has fallen below 7% since January to July. Now Tata Group has increased the number of delivery partners in its delivery arm BB Now to 2,200 in the end quarter of June. This number was just 500 in the last March quarter. Similarly, e-commerce companies like BigBasket and Dunzo have hired their own staff for delivery.
Also, Nykaa, a fashion retailer of cosmetics is looking to a third party to provide their services. With this move, gig employment is expected to reach 9.9 million in India by 2022-23, making up the bulk of delivery workers and vendors. Meanwhile, India’s biggest business magnate Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance company Dunzo currently has 75,000 delivery partners.
