April 12	International Day of Human Space Flight	The General Assembly on 7 April 2011 passed a resolution and declared 12 April as the International Day of Human Space Flight. 12 April 1961 was the date of the first human space flight, carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen. This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity.

April 18	World Heritage Day	The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 announced, 18 April as the World Heritage Day. This was approved by General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.

April 20	Chinese Language Day	The date for the Chinese day was selected from Guyu (“Rain of Millet”), which is the 6th of 24 solar terms in the traditional East Asian calendars, to pay tribute to Cangjie. Chinese was established as an official language of the United Nations in 1946.
April 21	National Civil Services Day	The Civil Service Day is celebrated on 21 April every year. The present civil services of India are mainly based on the pattern of the former Indian Civil Service of British India. Warren Hastings laid the foundation of civil service and Charles Cornwallis reformed, modernised, and rationalised it. Hence, Charles Cornwallis is known as ‘the father of civil service in India’.

United States Senator Gaylord Nelson came up with the idea for Earth Day after seeing the devastation caused by the 1969 Santa Barbara oil spill, which killed more than 3500 birds off the coast of California

April 23	English Language Day	English Language Day at the UN is celebrated on 23 April, the date traditionally observed as both the birthday and date of death of William Shakespeare. The Day is the result of a 2010 initiative by the Department of Public Information, establishing language days for each of the Organization’s six official languages.
April 25	World Malaria Day	World Malaria Day was established in May 2007 by the 60th session of the World Health Assembly, WHO’s decision-making body. Prior to the establishment of WMD, Africa Malaria Day was held on April 25.

April 26	World Intellectual Property Day	World Intellectual Property Day is observed annually on 26 April. The event was established by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000 to “raise awareness of how patents, copyright, trademarks and designs impact on daily life”. 26 April was chosen as the date for World Intellectual Property Day because it coincides with the date on which the Convention Establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization entered into force in 1970.
