Fracture in Material Science Study Material
Fracture is the separation of a specimen into two or more parts by an applied stress. Fracture can occur under all service conditions. Materials subjected to extended cyclic loading may result in fatigue fracture (delayed fracture). Also under the influence of a constant applied stress many materials continue to deform indefinitely. This process is called creep. It is an important consideration in high temperature applications. Prevention of failure during service is one of the most important problems faced by the engineers. Synopsis :

- Ductile fracture
- Fatigue failure
- Fatigue limit
- Prevention of fracture
- Creep
Brittle fracture :
Brittle fracture is the failure of a material without apparent plastic deformation. since this occurs without any indication, this is most dangerous and produces worst consequences. If we join together the broken pieces of a brittle fracture, we get back the original shape and dimensions of the specimen.
Ductile fracture :
Ductile fracture is the rupture of a material after a considerable amount of plastic deformation. When a common ductile materials is subjected to tensile stress the fracture process can be distinguished.
