The Sanand manufacturing unit in Gujarat is hand held by Tata Motors. But the future of the Ford’s Maraimalai Nagar unit in Tamil Nadu is remaining unstable. Ford workers have been protesting seeking a better severance package. But the company set the deadline for Monday evening for the workers to accept a ‘non-negotiable’ severance package being offered.
As per the rules of the new package, workers were given 115 days of gross wages for each completed year of service. The legal notice of the company reads, “The above package is not negotiable, and the terms of this notice shall not be construed as forming part of any service conditions. If employees do not opt for the severance package, the company will be forced to take legal steps/proceedings”.
