Officials have said that 500 workers have been given employment through the railway station which is functioning in Dharmapuri. The railway station located in Dharmapuri district was established in the year 1906. At present, more than 20 passenger and goods trains are running between Salem and Bangalore through this railway line.
Also, about 2 thousand passengers travel on this route every day. It has been reported that the handling of goods at Dharmapuri railway station is increasing day by day and about 3.50 lakh tonnes of goods are exchanged in a year.
Accordingly, paddy bundles from Delta district, Cement bales are imported from Andhra Pradesh, and wheat bales from northern states like Gujarat, and Maharashtra are imported to Tamil Nadu through the Dharmapuri railway station by goods train. In particular, as about 3.50 lakh tonnes of goods are transferred through this railway station every year, more than 500 workers are employed, officials said.
