Delhi University: Framing the syllabus and Other Modalities for a Certificate Course on Patent Laws. To assist students in turning their research into a “physical” product and to teach them the fundamentals of filing for patents, the Delhi University plans to launch a certificate program in patent laws. This would be the institution’s first time offering a course of this kind. The Delhi University Law Faculty’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) course includes a chapter on patent laws, and several of the university’s scientific courses also cover the subject.

A committee to draught the syllabus and other details for a course on patent laws has been established by the institution. Having a patent gives the owner the authority to prevent others from creating, utilizing, or commercializing an innovation.

The newly established committee is led by Daman Saluja, a professor at Delhi University’s B R Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research’s Medical Biotechnology Laboratory. Many students are unaware of what is and is not patentable, according to Ms. Saluja, who said that the course will help the students comprehend what should be kept in mind while filing for a patent.

“There is a lot of research in higher education that has practical applications, but few people are aware of it. How may their study be turned into a useful thing? People are unaware of the regulations and laws governing patents. DU is preparing to launch a certificate program in this area to close this gap “Added she.

According to Ms. Saluja, the certificate program will probably last three to four months during which time the students will learn the fundamentals of patent law and what to remember while applying for a patent. She predicted that the course would be useful for science students who wanted to learn about patent regulations for their study.

According to Ms. Saluja, the lack of understanding of patent laws is the cause of the nation’s slow pace of patenting ideas. The professor also mentioned how drawn-out and difficult the patent application procedure is.

“As new innovations emerge. Knowledge of patent laws is crucial. It’s a positive move. Market-specific research is also crucial. This is a very relevant subject and it should be taught in all the science courses and not just as a certificate course,” Ms. Chawla said. “It is not taught as a separate course but chapters as part of IPR in the most university. In law faculty, we have been teaching this for over 40 years,” she added.
