Agni-V test-fired successfully

  • Agni-V, the ‘Big Boy’ in the country’s missile armoury, was successfully launched on Sunday from the APJ Kalam Island, off the coast of Odisha. This is the sixth successful test flight of the missile.
  • The nuclear-capable, intercontinental ballistic missile has a range of over 5,000 km.

Operation ‘NISTAR’ – to rescue the Indians

  • The Indian Navy rescued 38 Indians by its ship INS Sunayna from Socotra island in Yemen where they were stranded for nearly 10 days after a severe cyclonic storm Mekenu hit the area.

Exercise Malabar 2018

  • 22nd edition of Exercise Malabar, off Guam, USA from 07 to 16 June 2018, will have the participation of navies from India, the US and Japan.
  • The Indian Navy will be represented by the two indigenously designed and built ships, the multi-purpose stealth frigate INS Sahyadri and Anti-Submarine Warfare corvette, INS Kamorta, Fleet Tanker INS Shakti and Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft P8I.

Three-Day Campaign for Blue Flag Certification

  • SICOM conceived an integrated coastal management scheme named BEAMS (Beach Management Services).
  • SICOM under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has embarked upon a programme for Blue flag certification of one Blue Flag beach in each of the 13 coastal States /UTs under the World Bank-assisted Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP).

  • The Eleventh edition of GeoIntelligence Asia 2018 organised by GeoSpatial Media and Communication at New Delhi.
  • Theme of Seminar was ‘GeoSpatial : A Force Multiplier for Defence and Industrial Security’.

  • Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman flagged-in the expedition team to Mt. Everest conducted successfully by National Institute for Mountaineering & Allied Sports (NIMAS), Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh.

  • Closing ceremony of the 31st edition of the India – Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) from 06 to 09 Jun 18.

DAC approves Equipment Acquisition proposals

  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Raksha Mantri Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, met and accorded approval for the procurement of equipment for the Defence Forces valued at over Rs 5500 crore.

Dhanush, ready for induction into Army

  • India’s first indigenous, long-range artillery gun “Dhanush” has passed its final test at Pokhran, paving the way for its induction into the Army.

India to host first BIMSTEC war games in September

  • India will host the first military exercise of the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) group focussing on counter-terrorism in Pune in the second week of September.

Flood preparedness exercise in Uttar Pradesh

  • The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)) conducted a table-top exercise at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
  • The exercise is being held in collaboration with State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
