September 10 – World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD)

  • World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed on 10 September and it is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). WHO has been co-sponsor of the day.
  • The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

DPIIT to Launch Plastic Waste Management Campaign

  • As part of Prime Minister’s call to action for Plastic Waste Management, during his Independence Day speech, the theme of this year’s Swachhta hi Sewa is Plastic Waste Management.
  • Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, is playing a critical two-fold role for the success of the campaign as mandated by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti.

National Animal Disease Control Programme

  • In one of the major efforts towards doubling the Farmers Income, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shall be launching the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for eradicating the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis in the livestock, on 11th September from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The programme also aims at vaccinating 36 Million Female Bovine Calves annually in its fight against the Brucellosis disease.

 Prime Minister to Launch Kisan Man Dhan Yojana on the 12th of September

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi shall launch the Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana on the 12th of September at Ranchi, Jharkhand.
  • The Scheme shall secure the lives of 5 Crore Small and Marginal Farmers by providing a minimum pension of Rs 3000 per month, to those who attain 60 years of age.
  • The scheme has an outlay of Rs 10,774 Crores for the next three years. All the small and marginal farmers who are currently between the ages of 18 to 40 years can apply for the scheme.

Motihari-Amlekhganj cross border petroleum pipeline

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli will jointly inaugurate Motihari-Amlekhgunj cross border petroleum products pipeline through video conference. This is the first transnational petroleum pipeline from India and first South Asian oil pipeline corridor.
  • The landmark pipeline will ensure smooth, cost-effective and environment-friendly supply of petroleum products to Nepal. The 69 kms long pipeline from Motihari in Bihar to Amlekhgunj in Nepal has been constructed at the cost of around three hundred fifty crore rupees which are entirely borne by Indian Oil Corporation.

Thessaloniki International Fair in Greece

  • An Indian delegation led by Minister of State (MoS) for Commerce and Industry, Hardeep Singh Puri participated in the 84th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in Greece recently.
  • New India Pavilion was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Hardeep Singh Puri on 7th September 2019

Mobile App “CHC Farm Machinery”

  • During the National Conference on Crop Residue Management Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare launched a multilingual Mobile App “CHC Farm Machinery” for the farmers to avail the custom hiring services of CHCs located in the radius of 50 Kms.
  • This app connects the farmers with Custom Hiring Service Centres in their area. This app can be downloaded on any android phone from Google Play Store.

22nd Session of UN Committee on CRPD

  • Secretary of DePWD Participated In 22nd Session of UN Committee on CRPD at Geneva. India is a signatory of the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD). It ratified this Convention on 01-10-2007 in pursuance of Article 35 of the Convention. India submitted its First Country Report on Status of Disability in India in November 2015.

 ‘ANGAN’- A three-day international Conference on Energy Efficiency in Building Sector

  • An international conference ANGAN (Augmenting Nature by Green Affordable New-habitat) focussed on Energy Efficiency in Building Sector began. The Conference is being organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India in collaboration with GIZ under the Indo German Technical Cooperation.

Exhibition PRA-KASHI on finest trends of contemporary weaving

  • Union Minister of State for Culture& Tourism (Independent Charge), Shri Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the exhibition PRA-KASHI on the finest trends of contemporary weaving, in New Delhi. The National Museum, New Delhi in collaboration with Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi has organized this exhibition.

National Conference on Crop Residue Management

  • Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Shri Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the National Conference on Crop Residue Management for the farmers from the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh & Delhi in New Delhi.
  • This conference was organized in collaboration with ICAR in order to address concerns of farmers and State Governments.

India & ADB  sign $200 million loan to improve rural connectivity in Maharashtra

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $200 million loan to upgrade rural roads to all-weather standards in 34 districts of Maharashtra State to improve road safety and better connect rural areas with markets and services.
  • The project will improve the condition of about 2,100 kilometers (km) of rural roads to all-weather standards, with climate resilience and safety features, connecting rural communities with productive agricultural areas and socioeconomic centers.

Men’s World Boxing Championships

  • In boxing, India will open their campaign at the ongoing men’s World Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia. India’s Brijesh Yadav (81kg) will take on Poland’s Maleusz Goinski in the opener. The World Championship features more than 450 boxers from 87 countries.
