Garvi Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Garvi Gujarat Bhavan in New Delhi. The new building situated at Akbar Road in the national capital has been built at a cost of around 131 crore rupees by the Gujarat Government.
  • The Bhavan is equipped with traditional and modern artefacts and technologies and will represent the culture, craft and cuisine of Gujarat.

Police academy of international standards to be set up soon in Lucknow

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that a police academy of international standards will be set up very soon in Lucknow for training cops which will be the first of its kind of institute in the state.

Tinsukia Junction becomes 4000th railway station to get free public WiFi

  • Tinsukia Junction in northeast region has become the 4000th railway station in the country to have free public WiFi.
  • RailTel CMD Puneet Chawla said that the journey started from Mumbai Central in January 2016 and in the coming few weeks all railway stations over Indian Railway (except the halt stations) will have fast and free Railwire WiFi.

Japan to launch special police unit to patrol isles in East China Sea

  • Japan will launch a special police unit equipped with submachine guns and helicopters to patrol disputed isles in the East China Sea.
  • The National Police Agency said it had put in a budget request for an additional 159 officers to head off illegal landings on remote islands by armed groups.

School built with India’s assistance inaugurated in Nepal

  • Nepal’s Attorney General Agni Prasad Kharel and Ambassador of India to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri jointly inaugurated a school building constucted with India’s assistance in Jhapa District.
  • The new building of Shree School chaun Higher Secondary School has been built with Government of India’s grant of 35.70 million Nepali Rupees.

EEF summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the 5th Eastern Economic Forum – EEF summit in Russia. The Prime Minister will also attend the 20th annual summit between Russia and India during the three-day visit.

UNCCD COP14 begins in Greater Noida

  • The 14th Conference of Parties, COP14 to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification began on a high note at Greater Noida.
  • The objective of the COP14 is to discuss various issues of land such as sustainable land management, reversing land degradation, mitigating drought, halting desertification, addressing sand and dust storms, linkages with gender.

8 US made Apache AH-64E attack helicopters to be inducted into IAF today

  • Eight United States-made Apache AH-64E attack helicopters will be inducted into the Indian Air Force today. The addition of the Apache fleet will significantly enhance the IAF’s combat capabilities.
  • The IAF had signed a multi-billion dollar contract with the US Government and Boeing Ltd in September 2015 for purchase of 22 Apache helicopters.

‘Global Goalkeeper Award’

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be honoured with the prestigious ‘Global Goalkeeper Award’ by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for his leadership and commitment to the Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan, a nationwide initiative aimed to inspire the public to voluntarily clean public spaces as a service to the nation.

73rd Senior National Aquatic Championship

  • Divya Satija from Haryana won Gold Medal in Women’s 50 m Butterfly race during the 73rd Senior National Aquatic Championship at Prakash Taran Pushkar in Bhopal.

ISSF World Cup 2019

  • India finished at the top of the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol Championship in Rio De Janeiro with 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
  • Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary claimed the mixed 10m air pistol gold.
  • Yashaswini Deswal and Abhishek Verma won the silver and India picked up the maximum possible medals on the final day of the tournament.
  • World number one in women’s 10m air rifle, Apurvi Chandela partnered Deepak Kumar to win India their fourth gold.

Virat Kohli surpassed M S Dhoni to become India’s most successful Test skipper

  • Virat Kohli has surpassed Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become India’s most successful Test skipper. It came after the Indian team recorded its 28th win under Kohli’s leadership in the second and final test against the West Indies at Kingston.
  • Overall, former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith remains the most successful skipper in the world with 53 Test wins, followed by ex-Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who recorded 48 Test wins in his captaincy tenure.
