“Digital Gandhi Gyan-Vigyan” inaugurated

  • The Secretary of Department of Science & Technology, Prof. Ashutosh sharma inaugurated an exhibition titled “Digital Gandhi Gyan Vigyan Exhibition”.
  • The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with a technology start-up under incubation by IIT, namely, M/s Vizara Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Delhi. The Department of Science & Technology has also engaged IIT Gandhinagar for organising a workshop for about 200 school children on 3rd and 4th October 2019.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurates Swachh Bharat Diwas 2019

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Swachh Bharat Diwas 2019 in Ahmedabad. He released postage stamp and silver coin to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He also distributed the Swachh Bharat Puraskar to the winners.

Inter-State portability for ration cards launched

  • An inter-State portability for ration cards has been launched for Rajasthan and Haryana to facilitate the distribution of foodgrains to beneficiaries of the National Food Security scheme. Labourers in the unorganised sector, migrating from one State to the other in search of work, will mainly benefit from the scheme.
  • While the portability for Rajasthan and Haryana had been launched, the Centre would implement it all over the country soon.

Andhra CM inaugurates Secretariat system to strengthen village ecosystem

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the ‘Village Secretariat system’ here and asserted that the state government aims to strengthen the village ecosystem.

Odisha CM launches ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative

  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched his government’s ‘Mo Sarkar’ (my government) initiative and directly talked to some people to know about their experience in state-run hospitals and police stations.
  • The objective of the ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative is to provide service with dignity to people who are coming to government offices for different purposes

North Korea successfully tested Submarine-launched missile

  • North Korea has said that its test-firing of a new submarine-launched ballistic missile in the waters off its east coast was successful. The Korean Central News Agency said the test of the Pukguksong-3 missile ushered in a new phase in containing the outside forces’ threat to North Korea.

APPOINTMENTS

Government appoints economist Surjit S Bhalla as Executive Director for India at IMF

  • Eminent economist Surjit S Bhalla was appointed as the Executive Director for India on the board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Bhalla (71) will succeed former RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn.

Swachchta Ambassador Award

  • The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, graced and addressed the India Today Safaigiri Summit and presented the most effective Swachchta Ambassador award to Shri Sachin Tendulkar in New Delhi on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

President Kovind to confer Vayoshreshtha Samman-2019

  • President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the Vayoshreshtha Samman-2019 on the eminent senior citizens and institutions in recognition of their services towards the cause of the elderly persons.
  • The Vayoshreshtha Samman is a Scheme of awards instituted by the Social Justice and  Empowerment  Ministry and presented as part of the celebration of the International Day of Older Persons on 1st October.

World Women’s Boxing Championship begins in Russia

  • The World Women’s Boxing Championship began at Ulan Ude in Russia. The best female boxers in the world will compete in the 11th edition of the championships, the most prestigious boxing titles in the word. India will play with a ten-member squad comprising experienced and young boxers. Six-time champion M C Mary Kom will start as a strong medal contender for India yet again in 51 kilogram category.
