October 28 – International Animation Day

  • October 28 is International Animation Day. It’s a day to recognize and celebrate the artists, the scientists and the technicians behind animated art including animated movies.
  • Created by the International Animated Film Association (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation) in 2002, the unofficial holiday commemorates the day in 1892 when Charles-Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique made its first public appearance at the Grevin Museum in Paris, France.

October 29 – International Internet Day

  • International Internet Day is celebrated worldwide, every year on 29th of October. Since the year 2005 the International Internet Day has been famously celebrated to commemorate a momentous day in the history of telecommunications and technology. This was the event of the sending of the first message, first electronic message which was transferred from one computer to another in 1969.

October 29 – World Psoriasis Day

  • IFPA presents World Psoriasis Day as an annual day dedicated to people with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis. It has been celebrated on October 29 for more than a decade. On World Psoriasis Day, our member associations and their supporters organise activities around the world to raise awareness of psoriasis. 

October 29 – World Stroke Day

  • World Stroke Day is observed on October 29 to underscore the serious nature and high rates of stroke, raise awareness of the prevention and treatment of the condition, and ensure better care and support for survivors.
  • On this day, organizations around the world have facilitated events emphasizing education, testing, and initiatives to improve the damaging effects of stroke worldwide. The annual event was started in 2006 by the World Stroke Organization(WSO)and the WSO declared stroke a public health emergency in 2010

Air India depicts ‘Ik Onkar’ on tail to mark 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev

  • In a unique gesture to mark 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, Air India has depicted Sikh religious symbol ‘Ik Onkar’ on the tail of one of its aircraft. The flight is set to fly from Amritsar to Stansted in the United Kingdom.

INTERNATIONAL

Bangladesh to hold the world’s second-largest Muslim congregation ‘Bishwa Ijtema’

  • Bangladesh will hold the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of Muslim community after Hajj, from January 10 to 12 next year in Dhaka. The second phase of the Ijtema will be held from January 17 to 19. 

Emergency declared in California as wildfires rage

  • The Governor of the US state of California, Gavin Newsom, has declared a state of emergency because of raging wildfires. The Kincade fire located in Sonoma County, north of San Francisco, first started on October 23. It is the largest fire currently burning in the state.

Cyclone Kyarr moves away from West coast

  • Cyclone Kyarr, after a trail of destruction in Goa, moved away from the West Coast, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting reduction in the rainfall.
  • The Weather Department, has, however, asked fisherman not to venture into the Sea for the next 24 hours due to rough weather conditions and gusty winds. 

DEFENCE

Indo-French Joint Exercise Shakti-2019

  • Series of  ‘Exercise SHAKTI’ between India and France commenced in year 2011. Its a biennial exercise and  is conducted alternately in India and France. As part of  Exercise SHAKTI – 2019,  French Army troops arrived in India on 26 October 2019 for training with Indian Troops.
  • The bilateral training exercise will be conducted at Foreign Training Node at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. A contingent of the Sikh Regiment of Sapta Shakti Command will represent Indian Army in this exercise. The French Army delegation will be represented by troops of 21stMarine Infantry Regiment  of 6th Armoured Brigade. The bilateral exercise will be conducted from  31 October 2019 to 13 November 2019.

Chairman, National Highways Authority of India

  • Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has taken over as Chairman, National Highways Authority of India today. He is an IAS Officer of 1988 batch Uttarakhand Cadre, who has held important positions in the Central Government and the Government of Uttarakhand, Government of Uttar Pradesh and Government of Punjab.

Manohar Lal sworn-in as Haryana CM for 2nd term

  • Senior BJP leader Manohar Lal has been sworn-in as Chief Minister of Haryana. Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a function at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh.
  • This is the second consecutive term for Manohar Lal as Chief Minister. Jannayak Janta Party leader Dushyant Chautala was sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister.

Tiger Woods equals world record for most career titles on PGA Tour with his 82nd win in Japan

  • Tiger Woods made history when he won the Zozo Championship in Japan for his 82nd US PGA Tour victory, equalling Sam Snead’s 54-year-old record. The 15-time major winner held off the challenge of home favourite Hideki Matsuyama to win by three shots at the tournament.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty bag silver in the doubles event at French Open

  • In Badminton, India’s top men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to world No.1 pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo in the finals of the French Open in Paris . The Indian duo settled for silver after losing the final 18-21, 16-21.
