October 25 – International Artist Day

  • International Artist’s Day is celebrated annually on October 25. International Artist Daywas launched in 2004 to honor the contribution artists make to society. Chenani Nashari Tunnel renamed after Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee

  • Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSME Shri Nitin Gadkari and Shri Jitendra Singh, MoS (I/C) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space announced renaming of Chenani Nashri Tunnel on NH 44 in Jammu & Kashmir as Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Tunnel in an event in New Delhi.
  • This 9 km tunnel is the longest such state of art tunnel in the country, connecting Udhampur to Ramban in Jammu.

58th Raising Day of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)

  • Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri G Kishan Reddy presided over the 58th Raising Day of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and took the salute of the Raising Day Parade. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was raised on 24 October, 1962 in the wake of Chinese aggression on Indo-China border

 Bureau of Police Research and Development’s (BPRD) flagship publication Data

  • Shri G. Kishan Reddy, the Hon’ble Minister of State (Home) released the BPR&D’s flagship publication, “Data on Police Organizations ” at the MHA, North Block, New Delhi.
  • The Data on Police Organisation in India is an important compilation of information on police infrastructure, manpower and other resources from all States, Union Territories, CAPFs and CPOs. This publication has proved very useful for various policy analyses and resource allocation decisions at both the MHA as well as the State level.  The publication is also widely cited in several researches on police topics.

ODISHA

New World Bank Project in odisha

  • The Government of India, Government of Odisha and the World Bank signed a US$165 million loan agreement to support smallholder farmers strengthen the resilience of their production systems as well as diversify and improve the marketing of their produce, for increased income.
  • The Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture will be implemented in rural areas vulnerable to droughts and largely dependent on rainfed agriculture. It will benefit about 125,000 smallholder farmer households from 15 districts of Odisha managing 128,000 ha of agricultural land.

 UTTAR PRADESH

Yogi Adityanath to launch Kanya Sumangala Yojana

  • Uttar Pradesh government launched its flagship scheme Kanya Sumangla Yojna. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch the scheme in the presence of Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani in Lucknow.
  • The scheme will provide an amount of 15 thousand rupees in a phased manner to every family in which a girl child takes birth.

Golden Jubilee celebration of Vishwa Shanti Stupa

  • President Ram Nath Kovind visited Rajgir in Bihar. Mr. Kovind inaugurated day long golden jubilee celebrations of Vishwa Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda) in Rajgir.
  • Situated on Ratnagiri hillock, this iconic structure was constructed by Japanese Buddhist monk popularly known as Fujii Guruji in 1969.

US urges Bangladesh to postpone relocation of Rohingyas

  • The US has urged Bangladesh to postpone relocation of Rohingyas to the uninhabited island Bhashan Char. Assistant secretary at the Bureau of South and Central Asia Alice G Wells urged Bangladesh to postpone any refugee relocation to Bhashan Char until independent experts can determine it a suitable location.

India ranks63 in World Bank’s Doing Business Report

  • The World Bank released its latest Doing Business Report(DBR, 2020) on 24th October 2019. India has recorded a jump of 14 positions against its rank of 77 in 2019 to be placed now at 63rdrank among 190 countries assessed by the World Bank.
  • India’s leap of 14 ranks in the Ease of Doing Business ranking is significant considering that there has been continuous improvement since 2015 and for the third consecutive year India is amongst the top 10 improvers.

First “Global Bio-India 2019” Summit

  • The Global Bio-India 2019, one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate will be held for the first time in India at New Delhi from 21st to 23rd November, 2019.
  • The DBT, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India along with its Public Sector Undertaking, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is organizing this event.

MoU & AGREEMENTS

India signs the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor Agreement with Pakistan

  • India has signed the Agreement with Pakistan on the modalities for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at Zero Point, International Boundary, Dera Baba Nanak. Representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Home Affairs along with the representatives from Government of Punjab have been present during the signing ceremony.
  • With the signing of this Agreement, a formal framework has been laid down for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.

Sailesh Assumes charge as Secretary Department of Public Enterprises

  • Sailesh assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, in New Delhi. He belongs to Indian Administrative Service, 1985 batch, Assam-Meghalaya (RR).
  • Prior to taking over as Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs.

China to host the inaugural edition of expanded 24-team Club World Cup

  • China will host the inaugural edition of the expanded 24-team Club World Cup. FIFA president Gianni Infantino made the announcement after a meeting in Shanghai of the FIFA Council, the decision-making unit of football’s world governing body. Qatar will host the competition this year and in 2020.
