October 24 – United Nations Day

  • UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
  • 24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday

October 24 – World Development Information Day

  • The General Assembly in 1972 established World Development Information Day to draw the attention of the world to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them .
  • The Assembly decided that the date for the Day should coincide with United Nations Day, 24 October, which was also the date of the adoption, in 1970, of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade.

First National Protocol to Enumerate Snow Leopard Population in India Launched

  • In a major boost towards protecting and conserving Snow Leopards, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Shri Prakash Javadekar launched the First National Protocol on Snow Leopard Population Assessment in India, on the occasion of International Snow Leopard Day on October 23.

Ayurveda Day to be celebrated throughout the Country on 25th October

  • The 4th Ayurveda day to be organized on 25th October, 2019 at National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Dhanwantari Pujan and “National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards -2019” ceremony will be held at NIA
  • On this occasion, a National Conference ‘Ayurveda for Longevity’ will also be organized on 24th October, 2019.

IFFI, Goa to celebrate Golden Jubilee Edition in November

  • International Film Festival of India, IFFI, Goa celebrates its Golden Jubilee Edition this year beginning from 20th of The list of films for Open-Air Screenings during 50th International Film Festival of India in Goa has been released. In all, 14 movies will be screened at the two venues.
  • The theme is ‘The Joy of Cinema’ where select movies from the Comedy and related genre and the Indian Panorama section will be screened for the audience.

Assam government starts scholarship scheme for children of tea tribe community

  • The Assam government has decided to start a scholarship scheme for children of tea tribe community, studying in 10th and 12th classes. It would cover students of all tea gardens in the state.
  • To make the intended beneficiaries aware of the various schemes being implemented by the state and the Centre, ‘Shramik Mitras’ would be appointed in every tea garden.

PM Modi congratulates Saied on being sworn-in as President of Tunisia

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Kais Saied on being sworn-in as the President of Tunisia.
  • An Independent candidate with no past political experience, Kais saied won the presidential election with 72.71 percent of vote share.

Spatial Planning Application ‘Gram Manchitra’ launched

  • Union Minister for Panchayati Raj Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, launched a Spatial Planning Application called ‘Gram Manchitra’ which is a Geo Spatial based decision support system for the panchayats. The panchayats can utilize this App to plan, develop and monitor developmental activities on real time basis.

19th Indo-Swedish Joint Commission

  • Commerce and Industry & Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal, said that India and Sweden enjoy a strong relationship and excellent cooperation in regional and international fora. Piyush Goyal is visiting Stockholm for the 19th Indo – Swedish Joint Commission for Economic, Industrial and Scientific Cooperation.
  • He is accompanied by an Indian business delegation to promote bilateral cooperation between the businesses of both the countries and jointly work towards mutually beneficial solutions.

XVIII NAM Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan

  • The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu will lead the Indian delegation at the XVIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held at Baku, Azerbaijan on 25-26 October.
  • The theme for the XVIII NAM Summit is “Upholding the Bandung Principles to ensure concerted and adequate response to the challenges of contemporary world”. The Ten Principles of Bandung, a political statement encapsulating the need to promote world peace and cooperation were formulated at the Asian-African Conference in 1955.

MoU & CABINET APPROVALS

MoU between India and Kuwait

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for capacity building and strengthening the accounting, financial and audit knowledge base in Kuwait.
  • Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Kuwait Accountants and Auditors Association (KAAA) will work together to hold and conduct technical events, seminars and conferences in Kuwait for the benefit of both organizations’ members and development of their professional expertise.

Praveen Kumar becomes first Indian man to win gold at Wushu World Championships

  • Praveen Kumar today became the first Indian man to win a Wushu World Championships gold, beating Russel Diaz of Philippines in the 48kg category in Shanghai. The Indian saw off his Filipino opponent 2-1 in the men’s Sanda event of the 15th World Wushu Championships.
  • Among other Indians in the fray, Poonam (women’s 75kg) and Sanathoi Devi (women’s 52kg) secured silver medals while Vikrant Baliyan bagged the bronze in the men’s 60kg category. India finished third overall in the championship in event with a gold, two silvers and a bronze.
  • Wushu is a Chinese martial art which combines full-contact kickboxing, including close-range punches and kicks, with wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps and kicks catch.
