NATIONAL AFFAIRS

Police Commemoration Day

  • Union Minister of Home Affairs Shri Amit Shah presided over the occasion of the Police Commemoration Day and paid homage to the police personnel martyred in the line of duty at the National Police Memorial, in New Delhi.
  • Police Commemoration Day is observed on 21st October every year to honor the loyalty and supreme sacrifice of police personnel for the nation.

 ‘76th Year of Formation of Azad Hind Government’

  • Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism (IC), Shri Prahlad Singh Patel took part in the commemoration event of 76th anniversary of the formation of Azad Hind Government at Red Fort, Delhi.
  • The Azad Hind government represented the vision laid down by Subhas Chandra Bose. Azad Hind government was actively involved in nation building and had even started its own bank, currency, postal stamps and army.

Government to set up 1 lakh digital villages 

  • Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government will set up one lakh digital villages in the country in the next few years. Speaking at the MeitY Start-Up Summit 2019 in New Delhi, Mr Prasad appealed to the concerned stakeholders to patronize and mentor these digital villages in their own way. He said these villages will be the centres for promoting entrepreneurship.

TAMILNADU

20,000 solar energy installations expected under Central scheme

  • Tamil Nadu is expected to have 20,000 solar energy installations under the Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (Kusum) scheme by the end of the current financial year, said Vikram Kapur, chairman and managing director, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco).

2nd group starts training on special tailor-made course at NACIN

  • The second group of 18 officers of the Government of Nepal have started their training on Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism at Regional Centre of National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Bengaluru.
  • This is a special tailor-made course designed at the request of Government of Nepal. It is an example of India’s commitment to enhance the capacities of various agencies of the Government of Nepal. The course is fully supported by the Government of India under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme of Ministry of External Affairs.

India, Maldives to take forward defence ties

  • With the recent improvement in relations, India and the Maldives will take forward several pending measures to promote defence cooperation in the next few months, diplomatic sources said.
  • These include lease of a Dornier aircraft, bringing the Maldives under India’s coastal radar chain network and a broad-based humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) exercise.

 Malaysia, Indonesia to challenge EU biofuels law at WTO by end-2019

  • Malaysia and Indonesia will challenge via the World Trade Organisation (WTO) a European Union law that will limit palm oil use in biofuels.”Malaysia and Indonesia are committed to challenge the Delegated Act through the WTO Dispute Settlement Body by end of this year.
  • The European Union had earlier this year decided to phase out by 2030 palm-based transport fuels in its share of renewable energy after concluding that its cultivation results in excessive deforestation.

First MeitY Start-up Summit

  • Union Minister of Law & Justice, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad had unveiled a series of new initiatives by Ministry of Electronics & Information (MeitY) in the first MeitY Start-up Summit held at New Delhi.
  • He said that under JAM Trinity 1.24 billion Aadhar cards, 1.2 billion mobile phones are riding its own story of success in the digital inclusion. eNam, e-Visas, Digital payments all have shown tremendous maturity and growth.

US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF)

  • Commerce and Industry & Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal addressed the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) in New Delhi. During the interaction Piyush Goyal said that Indo-US relationship is at their best ever now and trade relations between the two countries have a huge potential which is yet to be tapped.
  • The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) is a non-profit organization, with the primary objective of strengthening the India-US bilateral and strategic partnership through policy advocacy in the fields of economic growth, entrepreneurship, employment-creation, and innovation.
