November 21 – World Television Day

  • The United Nations’ (UN) World Television Day is annually observed in many places around the world on November 21. The day recognizes that television plays a major role in presenting different issue that affect people. World Television Day is a day to renew governments’, organizations’ and individuals’ commitments to support the development of television media in providing unbiased information about important issues and events that affect society.

November 21 – World Hello Day

  • On World Hello Day, people greet each other to show their support for world peace. The greetings demonstrate to world leaders that conflicts should be settled with communication instead of by force and violence. Anyone can participate in the day, which can be done by greeting at least ten people.
  • The day highlights how anyone can make a contribution to world peace. This day was founded by two brothers, Brian and Michael McCormack and created in response to the Yom Kippur War, which was fought between Israel and Egypt in October 1973.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

UGC asks higher educational institutions to celebrate Constitution Day on Nov 26

  • University Grants Commission, UGC has issued circular to higher educational institutions to celebrate Constitution Day on 26th of November.On this day in 1949, the Constitution was adopted which came into force on 26th January, 1950, marking the beginning of a new era in the history of India.
  • The commission has requested universities and affiliated colleges to make dedicated efforts to promote and spread awareness about the constitution and fundamental duties among their students, teachers staff and officials.

Govt appoints 478 Judges in High Courts, 34 Judges in SC: Ravi Shankar Prasad

  • The Minister of Law and Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that the government has provided all kinds of infrastructure and other support to the Judiciary to expedite speedy disposal of long-pending cases.Mr. Prasad said that the government has appointed a record number of 478 Judges in the High Courts and 34 Judges in the Supreme Court. He also said that the Chief Justices of the High Courts have been requested to take proactive steps to dispose off cases that are more than 10 years old.

National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa in Leh

  • The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) in Leh as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH.It also approved creation of the post of director in Level-14 to oversee implementation of the project from the construction stage itself.
  • The setting up of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) would provide an impetus for the revival of Sowa-Rigpa in the Indian Sub-continent. The Institute will also provide opportunities for students of Sowa-Rigpa not only in India but also from other countries.

CCEA approves amendments proposed in Toll Operate Transfer Model by NHAI

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA, has approved the amendments proposed in the Toll Operate Transfer (TOT) Model by National Highways Authority of India. The Model would facilitate efficient toll realization through private sector.
  • The CCEA approval will ensure a wider set of assets for Monetization and providing a more attractive model for the investors. The fund generated from such monetization shall be utilized for development of highways in the country, which will benefit users throughout the country.

JAMMU AND KASHMIR

J&K: Administration to launch second phase of ‘Back to Village programme’

  • The Jammu and Kashmir administration is all set to launch the second phase of ‘Back to Village programme’ to upgrade government websites with latest information from 25th to 30th November. The flagship programme is aimed at empowerment and development of Panchayats.It ensures the functionality of Panchayats in terms of manpower, 100% coverage of beneficiary oriented schemes and doubling of income of rural people by giving the impetus to the rural economy.

42 projects under Himayat Mission sanctioned in J&K

  • The Jammu and Kashmir administration is working on effective implementation of HimayatMission.Under this, 42 projects have been sanctioned for training and placement target of 68,134 youths.They are provided free skill training for a duration ranging from 3 to 12 months. They will be trained in a range of skills with the provision to provide placement to every trained candidate.63 Training centres have been set up within & outside the Union Territory with the enrollment of 5815 candidates.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath to inaugurate Munderwa Sugar Mill in Basti district

  • Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the newly-established Munderwa Sugar Mill in Basti district.It will be third inauguration of sugar mills in the state in just three weeks after the opening of mills in Ramala in Baghpat and Pipraich in Gorakhpur.

Global Bio-India Summit to begin in Delhi

  • Three-day Global Bio-India Summit will begin in New Delhi.Secretary of Department of Bio-Technology Dr RenuSwarup said, it will be one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate to be held in India for the first time.She said, it will bring academia, innovators, researchers, start-ups, medium and large companies together on the same platform.DrSwarup said, over three thousand delegates from around 25 countries and over 15 states of India will participate in the mega event. 

PM Modi to address Accountants General, Deputy Accountants General Conclave

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the Accountants General and Deputy Accountants General Conclave in New Delhi.Mr Modi will unveil the statue of Mahatma Gandhi before his address to Accountants General and Deputy Accountants General from across the country in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General.The conclave on the main theme Transforming Audit and Assurance in a Digital World is being held to consolidate experience and learning and chart out the path of Indian Audit and Accounts Department for the next few years.

  • India and Singapore have expressed satisfaction at the deepening defence ties between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitment to promote stability in the regionDefence Minister Rajnath Singh and his Singaporean Counterpart Dr N G Eng Hen co-chaired the Fourth Singapore-India Defence Ministers’ Dialogue in Singapore.

Assam govt to start Arundhati gold scheme by January 2020

  • The Assam government will start Arundhati gold scheme by January next year for the registered newly married couples. Under the scheme, an amount of 30 thousand rupees will be given to the bride to purchase gold.
  • Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the scheme is aimed to promote marriage registrations and prevent under-age marriages in the state. He said that the annual income of the bride and her father should not be more than 5 lakh rupees per year to get the benefit.

ACC Emerging Cup: India lose to Pakistan by three runs in semis

  • India crashed out of the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup after losing by three runs to Pakistan in the first semifinal in Dhaka.Pakistan scored 267 for seven after opting to bat first. Chasing the target, Skipper Belur Ravi Sharath with 47 and Aryan Juyal with 17 runs made a bright start, stitching 43 runs for the opening wicket.
