November 10 – World Science Day for Peace and Development
  • Celebrated every 10 November, World Science Day for Peace and Development highlights the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. It also underlines the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.

NATIONAL AFFAIRS

National Education Day
  • National Education Day is observed on 11th November every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. He was a freedom fighter, scholar and the first Education Minister of independent India. The day is also seen as an occasion to remember Azad’s contribution in laying the foundations of the education system in the country.

JAMMU & KASHMIR

Train services between Srinagar and Baramullah resumed
  • In Jammu and Kashmir, the train services between Srinagar and Baramullah resumed. Services from Srinagar to Banihal Junction in Jammu region will also resume.
  • The train services remained suspended on these routes since 5th of August after central government scrapped Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories.

UTTARAKHAND

Uttarakhand Foundation Day
  • Uttarakhand was formed on 9 November, 2000 by joining several districts from the Northwestern part of Uttar Pradesh and a portion of the Himalayan Mountain range. This year 19th Uttarakhand Foundation Day is going to celebrate. In 2007, the name of the state was formally altered from Uttaranchal to Uttarakhand.

Iran, Russia inaugurate new phase of construction for 2nd reactor
  • Iran and Russia inaugurated a new phase of construction for a second reactor at Iran’s sole nuclear power plant in Bushehr on the Gulf coast. The reactor is one of two officially under construction since 2017 at the Bushehr site.
  • Russia built the existing 1,000 megawatt reactor at Bushehr that came online in September 2011 and is expected to undertake construction of a a third in future, according to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).

  • Human Resources Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank will launch SWAYAM 2.0, Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds in New Delhi. The SWAYAM programme is initiated by the government to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy – access, equity and quality.

9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet
  • Commerce and Industry and Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal will attend the 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet in Brasilia, Brazil, on the 11th of November 2019.
  • Discussions at the 9th BRICS Trade Ministers Meet will be focussed on opportunities for enhanced intra-BRICS trade and investment cooperation. Issues like cooperation in e-commerce, investment facilitation, MSMEs, Intellectual Property Right, will be discussed during the meet.
BRICS summit from 13th to 14th November
  • Brazil is hosting 2019 BRICS summit, this time in capital Brasilia from 13th to 14th November. BRICS brings together five major economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa having 23 percent of the global GDP and around 17 percent of the share in world trade. 2019 edition of BRICS will be its 11th summit, happening every year since its inception.

Assamese version of book ‘Courts of India: Past to Present’
  • Chief Justice of India Justice Ranjan Gogoi released the Assamese version of the book ‘Courts of India: Past to Present’ in Guwahati. Releasing the book published by the Publication Division, Mr. Gogoi termed it as the architecture of justice.
  • The book has captured the historical developments which took place in the history of nation’s courts. The various chapters of the book narrates the historical events of the court.

National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019
  • Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey conferred the National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019 to Enterprises and Ecosystem builders. The fourth edition of the award ceremony was organized to mark the completion of 5 years of setting up of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in 2014.
  • The awards aim to recognize and honour the outstanding young First-Generation Entrepreneurs, and Ecosystem builders for their outstanding contribution in entrepreneurship development and providing support to the entrepreneurs. It seeks to instill and entrench the entrepreneurial attitude among the future generations and the Youth of India.

DEFENCE

Defence innovations conference
  • The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is organising ‘Def-Connect’ in New Delhi to showcase the accomplishments of the Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative and construct a strong outreach towards the potential future entrepreneurs of the defence sector. Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh will be the Chief Guest of the event.
  • The event would lead to better interaction & bridging the gap between the stakeholders and will be a precursor for Startup showcase during the forthcoming DefExpo 2020, to be held in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow from February 5-8, 2020.
Mid Planning Conference (MPC) for MILAN 2020
  • The Mid Planning Conference (MPC) for MILAN exercise concluded at Visakhapatnam. MILAN 2020 is scheduled to be conducted at Visakhapatnam in Mar 2020. The scope of exercise planned during the harbour and sea phase of MILAN 2020 was discussed in detail with the delegates of the participating countries during the conference.
  • MILAN series of biennial a multilateral naval exercise which commenced in 1995, was conducted at Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) until last year, is being conducted for the first time on the mainland at ENC with increased scope and complexity of the Exercise.

SPORTS

China Open Badminton
  • Kento Momota won his 10th title as Japan’s world number one defeated Taiwan’s world number two Tien-chen to retain his Fuzhou China Open Badminton crown. Home hope Chen Yufei similarly successfully defended the women’s title with a victory over Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara.
Indian shooters secure unprecedented 15 quota places for Tokyo Olympics
  • Angad Vir Singh Bajwa who secured gold and Mairaj Ahmad Khan winning silver added to India’s rich Olympic quota haul with a sensational 1-2 finish in the men’s skeet event at the 14th Asian Shooting Championship at Doha. Their medals ensured India secured an unprecedented 15 quota places for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
  • This is India’s best-ever Olympic quota haul, easily surpassing the 12 at the 2016 Rio Games and 11 in London in 2012.
