November 6: International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

  • On 5 November 2001, the UN General Assembly declared 6 November of each year as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. It aims to educate people about the damaging effects of war and armed conflict on the environment.

Guinness World Records with largest astrophysics assemble

  • The Guinness World Records for the largest astrophysics lesson (45 minutes) and assembly of spectroscopes was successfully achieved at the Science City, Kolkata on the first day of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2019 with the participation of over 1,598 students from Kolkata.
  • Astronomers use spectroscopes to know details like temperature, chemical composition, etc. of celestial objects hundreds or millions of light years away from us.

 ‘Wastelands Atlas’ – 2019

  • The Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare & Panchayati Raj, Shri Narendra Singh Tomar released the Wastelands Atlas – 2019.The Department of Land Resources in collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Department of Space has published Wastelands Atlases of India – 2000, 2005, 2010 & 2011 editions.
  • The new wastelands mapping exercise, carried out by NRSC using the Indian Remote Sensing Satellite data is brought out as the fifth edition of Wastelands Atlas – 2019.

Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) Reforms

  • National Workshop on Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) Reforms was held in New Delhi. During the event, Dr Jitendra Singh launched the CPGRAMS reforms for Departments of Financial Services and Telecommunications (DoT).
  • National Workshop on CPGRAMS reforms marks a major step of the Government for systemic improvement in the Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System. The new upgraded CPGRAMS version 7.0 provides for grievances filed on CPGRAMS to be directly sent to field level grievance officers by providing user ID’s to all field level functionaries.

HIMACHAL PRADESH

Rising Himachal 2019: Global Investors meet in Dharamshala

  • The State Government of Himachal Pradesh is organizing Global Investors’ Meet 2019,a flagship business event,at Dharamshala on November 7 -8, 2019. This event will showcase the policy and regulatory environment, investment opportunities in eight focus sectors to boost manufacturing and employment generation in the State.
  • The eight focus sectors are agri-business and post-harvest technology, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals, tourism and hospitality, civil aviation, hydro and renewable energy, wellness, healthcare and AYUSH, housing and urban development, IT-ITeS and electronics, education and skill development.

Monograph of ‘Musical Excellence of Mridangam’

  • Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu released the monograph, the Musical Excellence of Mridangam, at a function in Chennai. He stressed the importance of having a strong collaboration between music and science. The monograph has been prepared by the renowned Mridangam exponent Dr Umayalpuram Sivaraman, scientist Dr T.Ramasamy and Dr Naresh.

World Travel Market (WTM) in London

  • The Ministry of Tourism is participated in the three day long World Travel Market (WTM) from November 04-06, 2019 in London, UK. The theme for India Pavilion at WTM 2019 is ‘Incredible India – Find the Incredible India’.
  • WTM is one of the must-attend business-to-business exhibition for the travel and tourism industry worldwide. In the last four decades, WTM has grown in to world’s largest Exhibition attracting over 5,000 exhibitors from 182 countries and regions and more than 51,000 participants.

SUMMITS & CONFERENCES

15th meeting of Governing Council of SACEP

  • Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Information & Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar will attend the 15th meeting of the Governing Council of South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme, SACEP in Dhaka.
  • The SACEP is an inter-governmental organization which was established in 1982. Its member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka aim to promote and support protection, management and enhancement of the environment in the region. The 14th meeting of the SACEP Governing Council was held in March last year in Colombo.

International Conference on Soil and Water Resources Management

  • Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) inaugurated the five day-long “International Conference on Soil and Water Resources Management for Climate Smart Agriculture and Global Food and Livelihood Security” at the National Agricultural Science Centre Complex in New Delhi.
  • The conference is being organized jointly by the Soil Conservation Society of India in association with World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC), China and International Soil Conservation Organization (ISCO), U.S.A. with the objective to deliberate upon the various issues and challenges of soil and water conservation.

DRDO’s Igniter Complex at HEMRL, Pune

  • Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Shripad Naik inaugurated the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) Igniter Complex at High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) in Pune.
  • HEMRL is a premier laboratory of DRDO and primarily engages in developing Rocket and Gun Propellants, Pyrotechnic Devices, High Explosive Systems and synthesis of high energy molecules.

APPOINTMENTS

Mizoram’s New Governor

  • S Sreedharan Pillai has assumed the office of Governor of Mizoram. Mr. Pillai took oath of office in a swearing-in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan in Aizawl. The Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Ajay Lamba administered the oath of office to Mr. Pillai.

FIFA International Friendly match

  • In Football, Indian women’s team will take on Vietnam in the second FIFA International match in Hanoi. India will look to make a strong comeback after facing a defeat in the opening game.

14th Asian Shooting Championship

  • Deepak Kumar secured India’s 10th Olympic quota in shooting while Manu Bhaker claimed the women’s 10 metres air pistol gold medal in the 14th Asian Championship in Doha. Deepak is the second Indian shooter to earn an Olympic quota in the men’s 10 metres air rifle event after Divyansh Singh Panwar, who secured it in April.
