November 02 – International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists

  • The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2 November as the ‘International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists’ in General Assembly Resolution A/RES/68/163. The Resolution urged Member States to implement definite measures countering the present culture of impunity. The date was chosen in commemoration of the assassination of two French journalists in Mali on 2 November 2013.

Online Hackathon on Data-driven Innovation for Citizen Grievance Redressal

  • Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions is going to launch a nation-wide online Hackathon ‘Data-driven Innovation for Citizen Grievance Redressal’ on 5thNovember, 2019 in New Delhi. The Hackathon will be launched by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

Union Minister Flags off E-Vehicles procured by Information & Broadcasting Ministry

  • Shri Prakash Javadekar flagged off e-vehicles, procured by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at an event in New Delhi. The Electric-vehicles are supplied by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of state-owned NTPC Limited, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and POWERGRID, under the Government of India
  • With this partnership, the Government of India continues to be an active participant in India’s quest for reduced emissions & vehicular electrification. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Javadekar stated the benefits of using e-vehicles, “E-cars are an attractive, sustainable and profitable solution to mitigate climate change and the risk of public health caused by vehicular emission.”

21st North East Book Fair in Guwahati

  • Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurates the 21st North East Book Fair organized by the All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association (AAPBA) in Guwahati.The Vice President said that students must be encouraged to look at reading as a fun activity rather than a chore.

Chhath Puja festival: ‘Kharna’ to be observed this evening

  • In Bihar, the festival of Chhath is being celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety. On the third day of the festival today, devotees will offer Sandhya Arghya to the setting Sun on the ghats of different rivers, ponds and other water bodies across the state.

Kolkata International Film Festival to start on November 8

  • The Kolkata International Film Festival will start on November 8. Satyajit Ray directed Gupi Gayen, Bhagha Bayen will be the inaugural film of this festival. Cine Super-star Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a galaxy of Bollywood and Tollywood stars will be present at the inaugural programme of the festival.

India and Germany to cooperate in Artificial intelligence

  • The German Federal Minister for Education & Research, Ms. AnjaKarliczek called on the Union Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health &Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhanhere today to discuss various activities under Science and Technology and status of research – cooperation between both countries.
  • The interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems programme launched in India last year by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) encompasses all elements including Artificial Intelligence, Internet of things etc. This new initiative with Germany will be operated through existing Indo-German Science and Technology Centre at Gurugram

  • Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State (I/C) for Labour and Employment launched 3 Apps: UAN REGISTRATION, E-INSPECTION AND DIGI LOCKE,developed by Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) at its 67th Foundation Day. Speaking on the occasion Shri Gangwar said that these Apps will immensely enhance the Ease of Doing Business and promote transparency in the working in the EPFO.

Cyclone Maha likely to bring rainfall to South Gujarat, Saurashtra

  • Cyclone Maha is likely to bring heavy rainfall in the south Gujarat region, including coastal belt of Saurashtra from 6th November onwards. The cyclone effect was seen on several parts of Saurashtra coast and coastal parts of Amreli such as Pipalav, Jafarabad received rainfall.

ECONOMIC AFFAIRS:

Coal India to produce 750 million tonnes of coal next financial year

  • Union minister for Mines and Coal Pralhad Joshi has said that state-owned Coal India will produce 750 million tonnes of coal in the next financial year and will offer around 10,000 new jobs to boost employment. Mr Joshi also directed Coal India to take necessary steps to achieve this goal in light of growing energy requirements of the nation. The minister announced this target during his address at the 45th foundation day of Coal India Limited in Kolkata.

7th India-US Economic and Financial Partnership meeting held in Delhi

  • The Seventh Meeting of the India-U.S. Economic and Financial Partnership is meant to deepen the economic partnership between the two countries as a framework, commensurate with the growing importance of our economic relations and significant business and cultural ties that already exist between the two nations, and to undertake further work in a number of areas to improve cooperation and support for economic development.

MoU & AGREEMENTS

India Strengthens its Partnership with Germany on the Skills Agenda

  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) signed two major agreements, referred to as Joint Declaration of Intent (JDoI), along with Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (hereinafter referred to as “BMZ”), Germany.
  • One DoI was with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (hereinafter referred to as “BMBF”) for Cooperation in the Field of Skill Development and Vocational Education and Training. The second was signed for Dual VET initiative marking Sustainable Growth of Skills with Siemens Limited, India.

India & Germany sign two Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Education

  • India and Germany signed two Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Education. First was an addendum to the MOU on Cooperation in the Field of Higher Education, signed by MHRD and BMBF, through which  funding period of Indo-German Partnership has been extended from 1stJuly, 2020 to 30th June, 2024.
  • Second MOU was signed between University Grants Commission, India and DAAD, Germany for extending the joint partnership programme under “Indo German Partnerships in Higher Education” (IGP) with the objective to enhance long-term partnerships between German and Indian Institutions of higher education by opening up new and innovative areas of cooperation;

The Army Aviation Corps Celebrated its Thirty Fourth Raising Day

  • The Army Aviation Corps celebrated its Thirty Fourth Raising Day on 01 Nov 2019. To mark this occasion, a Wreath Laying Ceremony was held at National War Memorial, India Gate,New Delhi. Wreaths were laid by Lt Gen Anjan Mukharjee (Retd) and Maj Gen AK Suri, ADG Army Aviation, in presence of host of serving and retired aviation personnel.

India, Germany stress the need to further deepen bilateral defence cooperation

  • India and Germany have acknowledged the need to further deepen bilateral defence cooperation as strategic partners to jointly address global and regional security challenges.
  • The Joint statement issued after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Markel in New Delhi said that both sides agreed to develop stronger cooperation in Defence Industry testing and certification, especially for design certification of various systems.

Air Marshal Manavendra Singh AVSM assumes Charge as Director General Inspection and Safety

  • Air Marshal Manavendra Singh, AVSM VrC VSM, took over as Director General Inspection and Safety, Air Headquarters RK Puram on 01 Nov 2019. The Air Marshal was commissioned in the flying branch of Indian Air Force on 29 Dec 1982 as a Helicopter pilot. Prior to his present appointment he was Senior Air Staff Officer, Southern Air Command.
