Karnataka:

Bengaluru Central University, CII sign MoU

  • The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the new city-based Bengaluru Central University (BCU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for giving a boost to higher education learning initiatives.

Appointments:

  • Air Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria Takes Over as Vice Chief of the Air Staff
  • Air Marshal Sk Ghotia VSM takes over command as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief training command

Sangakkara named as first non-British MCC president

  • Former Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara became the first non-British president of the prestigious Marylebone Cricket Club. The wicketkeeper-batsman, whose nomination was announced by current president Anthony Wreford, will begin his one-year tenure in October.

Space Science:

Chandrayaan-2 launch

  • Chandrayaan-2, India’s second lunar mission, has three modules namely Orbiter, Lander (Vikram) & Rover (Pragyan).All the modules are getting ready for Chandrayaan-2 launch during the window of July 09 to July 16, 2019, with an expected Moon landing on September 06, 2019.

Defence Affairs:

Varuna 19.1 Bilateral Exercise

  • Indian and French Navies conduct the first part of the Indo-French joint naval exercise Varuna 19.1 Bilateral Exercise Off Goa coast from 1st – 10th May 19.
  • The second part, Varuna 19.2, is scheduled to be held at the end of May in Djibouti. The bilateral naval exercise initiated in 1983 and christened as ‘Varuna’ in 2001.

Economic Affairs:

GST collection recorded highest collection in April, 2019

  • The total gross GST revenue collected in the month of April, 2019 is Rs 1,13,865 crore. The revenue in April, 2018 was Rs 1,03,459 crore and the revenue during April, 2019 is a growth of 10.05% over the revenue in the same month last year. The revenue in April, 2019 is 16.05% higher than the monthly average of GST revenue in FY 2018-19 (Rs 98,114 crore).
  • GST Revenue collection for April, 2019 recorded highest collection since GST implementation.

BASF India reorganises business segments in line with parent firm

  • BASF India has reorganised its businesses in six key segments as per the new corporate strategy of its parent BASF Societas Europaea, Germany.

ADB steps up metro rail funding

  • Asian Development Bank (ADB), is involved with the $1 billion Mumbai metro, and is in talks with the respective State governments for funding the Bhopal Metro and Bengaluru Metro. It is also engaged in discussions to extend assistance to Chennai Metro Phase II possibly even subsequent phases — and the new Indore metro.

MoU/ Agreements:

I-T Dept., GSTN to sign MoU for sharing data to prevent anomalies

  • The Income Tax Department and the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) are all set to sign an MoU that will allow the two to match their data regarding company financials so as to pin down any anomalies.

International Affairs:

UN designates JeM chief Masood Azhar as global terrorist

  • Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar was listed as a designated terrorist by the UN Security Council 1267 Committee. Significantly, the reasons for listing did not mention the Pulwama attack of February 14, for which the JeM had claimed responsibility.

Denisovans lived in Tibetan Plateau

  • Analysis of a fossil jawbone containing molars recovered from Baishiya Karst cave in Xiahe, Gansu, China shows Denisovans lived in the Tibetan Plateau some 1,60,000 years ago. The first evidence for Denisovans or Denisova hominins was first discovered in 2008 in a cave in the Altai mountains in Siberia.

Sports Affairs:

HI recommends Sreejesh for Rajiv Khel Ratna Award

  • Hockey India has recommended P.R. Sreejesh for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for 2019. He was awarded the Arjuna in 2015. In 2017, he was conferred with the Padma Shri as well.

 World number 1 position in Shooting

  • Indian shooting ace Apurvi Chandela attained the world number 1 position in the women’s 10m air rifle event while compatriot Anjum Moudgil rose to number two.
