NATIONAL AFFAIRS

38th WORLD UNESCO World HERITAGE SITE as Pink City Jaipur 
  • In yet another landmark achievement, India’s nomination of the Jaipur City, Rajasthan got inscribed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO during the 43rd Session of the World Heritage Committee held at Baku, Azerbaijan.
  • The nomination of Jaipur City has successfully been done by complying with the various UNESCO guidelines of 2017. With Successful inscription of Jaipur City, India has 38 world heritage sites, that include 30 Cultural properties, 7 Natural properties and 1 mixed site.
Government to invest 50 lakh crore rupees in railways by 2030
  • Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the government is eyeing investment of 50 lakh crore in railways by the year 2030 to make it the best in the world. Mr Goyal announced that the entire Konkan Railway route from Mumbai to Mangaluru via Goa would be electrified at the cost of 11,000 crore rupees.
Fertiliser subsidy sees a hike of around Rs 10,000 crore in Union Budget
  • Fertilizer Subsidy allocation has seen a hike of around 10,000 crore rupees in the Union Budget. Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister, DV Sadananda Gowda said, the increased allocation towards the Fertilizer Subsidy would further help in increasing the efficiency of subsidy transfers to the farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Nine new FPOs to be set up in Kurnool district
  • The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs.102 lakh for setting up nine new Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) in the district. Two of them would be promoting fisheries for the first time in Kurnool.

Central govt going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar
  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju has informed that central government is going to set-up three Sports Centre of Excellence in Itanagar very soon. Mr. Rijiju said that the three centre of excellence will be for Martial Arts, Weight Lifting and Boxing.

Saudi Arabia adopts Digital India, equality of women in this year’s Haj
  • Indian Haj mission in Saudi Arabia has adopted digital technology to reach out to a large number of pilgrims as part of the Government of India’s initiative of Digital India.
  • The App – Indian Haj Information System – developed by the consulate is to receive feedback, a grievance from Hajis, With the introduction of Haj App, Indian diplomats in Saudi Arabia are trying to form a bridge with the pilgrims not only to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free Haj operation but also to receive grievances and feedbacks to improve the service.

Sugar Conference 2020
  • Sugar Conference 2020 organised by Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank commences today at Westin Hotel Pune. The convention aims to encourage an open dialogue between policy makers and stakeholders from the Indian Sugar Industry for a better and sustainable tomorrow for the sector. The conference is a 3 day power packed event of sessions and panel discussions by stalwarts of the industry.

SCHEMES

Bi-cycle sharing scheme, to be introduced in Puducherry
  • Conceived and prioritised under Puducherry smart city development plan, a bicycle sharing scheme, is to be introduced in Puducherry in a couple of months.
    The registered users or customers can use bicycles to hop from one place to another within the boulevard area. The bicycles can be left at any of the docking stations after use.

ICC rankings
  • Indian Team skipper Virat Kohli has retained the top position among batsmen in the latest ICC rankings. His deputy Rohit Sharma bridged the gap at No. 2 following his record five World Cup tons. Pakistan’s Babar Azam has gone up to the third place.

SPORTS

Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland
  • Star Indian sprinter Hima Das won her second international gold in women’s 200m with a top finish at the Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland. Hima clocked 23.97 seconds to clinch the gold while VK Vismaya bagged the silver in 24.06 seconds. National record holder Muhammed Anas also won the gold in men’s 200m race with a time of 21.18 seconds.
