Railways to install CCTV cameras in over 7,000 train coaches by 2021
  • The railways has set a target to install CCTV cameras in more than 7,000 coaches of mainline passenger trains by March 2021. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said CCTV cameras have already been installed in coaches of premium, mail, express and suburban trains.

INTERNATIONAL

IMF board approves $6 billion loan package for Pakistan
  • The International Monetary Fund Executive board gave formal approval to a three-year, $6 billion loan package for Pakistan to rein in mounting debts and stave off a looming balance of payments crisis. The Board approval will allow immediate disbursement of around $1 billion, with the remainder to be phased in over the period of the programme, subject to quarterly review, the IMF said in a brief statement.

NASA tests launch-abort system for its moon mission
  • NASA carried out a successful test of a launch-abort system for the Orion capsule designed to take U.S. astronauts to the Moon. The three-minute exercise at Cape Canaveral in Florida aimed to test in almost real-life conditions the evacuation of astronauts from the capsule in the event of an explosion or rocket booster failure.
Total Solar Eclipse in South America
  • In the region of Coquimbo in Chile darkness descended during a total eclipse of the sun. The Moon’s great shadow, or umbra, then passed over the Andes and across to Argentina. The rest of Chile, as well as Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia, Uruguay, and parts of Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela and Panama, witnessed a partial eclipse.

Govt hikes Minimum Support Price of Kharif crops for 2019-20 season
  • In a major boost to the farmers’ income, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the increase in the Minimum Support Prices, MSP for all Kharif crops for 2019-20 Season. The increase in MSP for Kharif Crops for 2019-20 season is in line with the principle of fixing the MSPs at a level of at least 1.5 times of the all India weighted average Cost of production, which was announced in the last budget 2018-19.

MoU & CABINET APPROVAL

Cabinet approves MoU between India and Maldives for Shipping
  • The Union Cabinet has given ex-post facto approval for the MoU between India and Maldives for the establishment of passenger and cargo services by sea. India is a leading development partner of Maldives and has established many of the leading institutions of Maldives. Currently, India has provided US $100 million Stand-by Credit facility (SCF) to Maldives, including long-term loans and revolving credit for trade.
MoU signed between UPSC and Civil Service Council of Mongolia
  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Civil Service Council of Mongolia, to take forward the cooperation between the Commissions of the two countries. The MoU primarily aims to facilitate sharing and promoting best practices through bilateral exchanges.
  • The areas of cooperation include exchange of experience in use of Information Technology in examination processes, modern approach to public service reforms, exchange of resource persons for conducting specialised training programs, seminars or workshops in areas of mutual interest

NDMA conducts workshop on Glacial Hazards and Risks
  • National Disaster Management Authority in partnership with Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is organizing a two-day brainstorming meeting on the assessment and management of glacial risks, particularly glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in New Delhi. GLOFs refer to the sudden discharge of a water reservoir that has formed either underneath, at the side, in front, within, or on the surface of a glacier.

Poznan Athletics Grand Prix
  • Hima Das, the under-20 World champion won the women’s 200m gold in the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. Muhammed Anas in men’s 200m, S. Jeevan in men’s 400m , Asian champion Tajinder Pal Singh Toor in men’s shot put and V.K. Vismaya in Women’s 200m won Bronze medal each.
