  • Madhya Pradesh’s Pench sanctuary and Kerala’s Periyar sanctuary emerged as the best managed tiger reserves in the country, according to an evaluation of India’s 50 tiger sanctuaries released along with the 4th National Tiger Estimation (Tiger census)

Google Doodle celebrates Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddi, India’s first woman legislator

  • Google Doodle celebrated Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddi, a surgeon, educator, lawmaker and social reformer, on her 133rd birth anniversary. She became one of the first women doctors in India in 1912, and the first woman house surgeon in the Government Maternity Hospital, Madras.

District Administration of J & K’s Udhampur launches helpline “Jeene Do”

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, District Administration Udhampur has launched a helpline, “Jeene Do”. The objective is to improve sex ratio and deal with defaulters of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques or PCPNDT Act under the Centrally sponsored Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme.

India, China review situation in border areas

  • India and China have reviewed the situation in the border areas for maintaining peace and tranquillity. Both sides held the 14th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination, WMCC on India-China Border Affairs in Beijing.

Indian peacekeepers in Haiti win laurels for exemplary service

  • Indian peacekeepers, who supported the Haitian Police for over a decade and are departing from Haiti as the UN mission closes in October, have won laurels for their commendable service. The Indian Formed Police Unit consisted 140 personnel from Assam Rifles, India’s 184-year-old paramilitary force

Chandrayaan-2 now 3 steps closer to moon

  • Indian Space Research Organisation was successful in completing the third earthbound orbit raising manoeuvres of Chandrayaan-2 satellite. Chandrayaan 2 is expected to reach lunar orbit by mid-August and the lander carrying the rover in it is, expected to soft-land in the south pole of Moon on September 7.

Japan’s Hayabusa-2 completes second touchdown on Asteroid Ryugu

  • Japan’s Hayabusa2 probe landed successfully on a distant asteroid for a final touchdown, hoping to collect samples that could shed light on the evolution of the solar system.

BANKING AFFAIRS

RBI slaps Rs 26 lakh fine on Mobikwik and Hip Bar

  • The Reserve Bank has imposed a fine of about 26 lakh rupees on two online payment solutions Mobikwik Systems Private Limited and Hip Bar Pvt Ltd providers for non-compliance of regulatory guidelines.

MoU & CABINET APPROVALS

MoU between India and Mozambique

  • Two Memoranda of Understanding agreement on sharing white shipping information and co-operation in the field of Hydrography were signed between Government of India and Government of the Republic of Mozambique. The signing of the two MoUs will further strengthen the ongoing Indo-Mozambican Defence co-operation.

MoU between India and Myanmar

  • India and Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Understanding on defence co-operation. It was aimed at enhancing defence co-operation, review joint exercises and training provided to Myanmar Defence Services, strengthen maritime security by joint surveillance and capacity building, medical co-operation, pollution response and for developing new infrastructure.

MoU between India and Benin

  • India and Benin signed four MoUs on education, health and e-visa facilities. Two more MoUs are signed on tele education program e-vidyabharati and Tele medicine initiative e-Arogyabharati.

DEFENCE

IN LCU L-56 Commissioned into the Indian Navy

  • IN LCU L56, the sixth ship of the Landing Craft Utility(LCU) MK IV class was commissioned into the Indian Navy by Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain. LCU 56 is an amphibious ship with its primary role being transportation and deployment of Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Vehicles, Troops and Equipment from ship to shore.

SPORTS

ICC launches World Test Championship

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) first came up with the idea in 2009 with plans of hosting the first edition in 2013. The tournament got postponed to 2017 and was cancelled later. Finally, it was decided that the inaugural ICC World Test Championship will be played from 1st of next month to 30th April 30, 2021.

Anjum Moudgil betters World record

  • The World Championship silver medallist, the first to win the Olympic quota for shooting for Tokyo, Anjum shot better than the World record to beat Mehuli Ghosh by 1.7 points for the women’s air rifle gold .
