July 28 – World hepatitis day

  • World Hepatitis Day is observed on 28 July. The date of 28 July was chosen because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist Dr Baruch Blumberg, who discovered hepatitis B virus (HBV) and developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus.

July 28 – World Nature Conservation day

  • World Nature Conservation day is celebrated on July 28 across the world in order to raise awareness about protecting nature and conserving our natural resources.

July 29 – Global Tiger Day

  • Global Tiger Day, takes place annually on July 29. It is a day to celebrate tigers, to raise awareness for the need for their preservation, and to promote the protection and expansion of their habitats. The day was designated in the St. Petersburg Declaration on Tiger Conservation, which was released on November 23, 2010, during the Global Tiger Summit.

Fourth cycle of All India Tiger Estimation – 2018

  • The Tiger Estimation exercise is believed to be the world’s largest wildlife survey effort in terms of coverage, intensity of sampling and quantum of camera trapping. India conducts the All India Tiger Estimation every four years.  Three cycles of the estimation have already been completed in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

WHO says Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal & Thailand achieve Hepatitis B control

  • Bangladesh along with Bhutan, Nepal and Thailand in South-East Asia Region has been able to achieve Hepatitis B control. The prevalence of the deadly disease has come down to less than one per cent among five-year-old children says the WHO in its report published.

Himalayan Conclave being held in Mussoorie

  • In Uttarakhand, a Himalayan Conclave is being held in Mussoorie. The objective is to discuss various issues related to the development of Himalayan States.

UP Investors Summit

  • Union Minister for Home Affairs, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Second Ground Breaking Ceremony of the UP Investors Summit, in Lucknow. He laid the foundation stone of over 250 projects worth Rs. 65,000 crores.

India-Nepal Logistics Summit

  • Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli Inaugurated India-Nepal Logistics Summit in Kathmandu.He said that smart logistics plays a crucial role in making trade and transit arrangements easy, hassle-free and cost-effective.

New DGP of Arunachal Pradesh

  • RP Upadhyaya took charge as the new Director-General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh at Police Headquarter in Itanagar. He succeeded SBK Singh, who has been transferred to Mizoram.

IPS officer VK Johri appointed as next BSF DG

  • IPS officer VK Johri has been appointed as the next Director General of Border Security Force. Mr Johri, a 1984-batch Indian Police Service officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, is presently serving as the Special Secretary in RAW, under the Cabinet Secretariat.

Indian boxers bag 8 medals in Thailand Open campaign

  • Indian boxers finished their campaign at the Thailand Open in Bangkok with a rich haul of eight medals, comprising a gold, four silver and three bronze.

Khelo India Youth Games to be held in Guwahati next year

  • The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Guwahati next year. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the decision.

Max Verstappen clinches German Grand Prix

  • Red Bull’s driver Max Verstappen clinched the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. Verstappen now has the second title of the Formula One season.

President’s Cup Boxing Tournament

  • Six-time world champion Mary Kom in 51kg category and Simranjit Kaur in 60kg category grabbed a gold each in 23rd President’s Cup Boxing Tournament in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia.

46th National women’s chess championship

  • Defending champion Bhakti Kulkarni of Air India played out a draw against Pratyusha Bodda of Andhra Pradesh in the 11th and final round to emerge champion of the 46th National women’s chess championship.

Dalilah Muhammad breaks world record in 400 hurdles at nationals

  • Dalilah Muhammad broke a 16-year-old world record in the 400-meter hurdles by finishing in 52.20 seconds at the U.S. championships.
