Vizianagaram gets a Butterfly Park

  • A newly-built Butterfly Park and a Turtle Interpretation Centre at the Forest Department office opened at Vizianagaram. The park boasts of a large number of butterfly species such as southern birdwing, clubtail butterfly, common tiger, mottled emigrant, and common mime among many others. The turtle interpretation centre explains of the life stages of a turtle.

Jammu & Kashmir

Defence Minister inaugurates two bridges in J&K

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated 1000 meter long Ujh Bridge in Kathua district and 617.40-meter Basantar Bridge in samba district.

Karnataka

Most common traditional systems of water conservation

  • Madaka was one of the most common traditional systems of water conservation followed in coastal Karnataka. It was a unique traditional practice where a large body of water was collected on the sloppy terrain where there is a huge catchment, but by constructing a bund on one side; natural boundaries were created to hold water.

Telangana

NSG facility at CCMB

  • Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the Next Generation Sequencing (NSG) facility at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad. The facility includes technology for high genome sequencing and also diagnostic sequencing of clinical samples.

Uttar Pradesh

Two Skill Centre of Excellence (CoE)s

  • Ina strategic meeting between Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Shri Yogi Adityanath, Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, in Lucknow, a joint decision was made to set-up two Skill Centre of Excellence (CoEs) – one in Greater Noida for Plumbing and one in Varanasi for the Services Sector.

West Bengal

Bardhaman railway station to be named after Batukeshwar Dutt

  • The Bardhaman railway station in West Bengal will be named after revolutionary freedom fighter Batukeshwar Dutt. The freedom fighter who was born in the district arrested along with Bhagat Singh after throwing bombs in the National assembly in Delhi.

APPOINTMENTS

Shri Ajay Bhadoo appointed as Joint Secretary to the President

  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shri Ajay Bhadoo, IAS as Joint Secretary to the President.

New Governors appointed for six states

  • President has appointed Governors for six states. Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandi Ben Patel will now be the new Governor of Uttar Pradesh while Lal Ji Tandon, who is the Governor of Bihar, has been shifted to Madhya Pradesh.
  • Phagu Chauhan will be the Governor of Bihar replacing Lal Ji Tandon. Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal while Ramesh Bais is the Tripura Governor. R.N.Ravi will be the new Governor of Nagaland.

DefExpo India-2020

  • The Eleventh biennial edition of DefExpo India – 2020 is scheduled to be held for the first time in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow in February 2020. The main theme of the DefExpo India- 2020 will be – India – the Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub and the focus will be on Digital Transformation of Defence.

Hima Das wins gold in 400m race

  • Indian sprinter Hima Das won a gold medal in the 400-meter race with a season-best time of 52.09 seconds at Nove Mesto in the Czech Republic. It was Hima’s fifth gold medal. Hima has already won gold in 200 meters race at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix and Kutno Athletics Meet in Poland earlier this month.

Indonesia Open final

  • In Badminton, P V Sindhu lost to Akane Yamaguchi in the finals of Indonesia Open BWF Tour Super 1000 tournament in Jakarta. ­

Indian bodybuilder Ravinder Malik clinches Mr South Asia title

  • Indian bodybuilder Ravinder Kumar Malik has clinched Mr. South Asia title. He has crowned the overall champion at 12th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Kathmandu. Afghanistan won team championship. India claimed four gold, five silver and one bronze medal.
