Economic Survey 2020-21 has Projected GDP Growth for the next financial year at 11%:

The Budget Session of Parliament began on 29.01.2021.  The session began with the address of President Ram Nath Kovind to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament. Economic Survey 2020-21 has Projected GDP Growth for the next financial year at 11%.

  • The Economic Survey 2020-21, tabled by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lok Sabha.
  • It says the GDP for the current financial year is estimated to contract by 7.7 per cent.
  • The nominal GDP for the next fiscal is expected to grow at 15.4 per cent. This is the highest since independence.

On the occasion of celebration 25 years of NICSI, IT and Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launch ‘Tejas’ , ‘e-Auction India’, ‘Work from anywhere’ portal.

  • Tejas- a virtual intelligence tool that extracts critical information from data to make its meaningful information for policy decisions and improving efficiency in government services and citizen
  • The ministry also launched ‘e-Auction India’ to cater to electronic forward and reverse auction requirements of the government organizations serving online 24×7.
  • ‘Work from Anywhere’ portal- It is a virtual environment that enables employees to access routine applications like e-office, calendar, mail, and other departmental applications and others

Government fixed a target of 10% blending of fuel grade ethanol with petrol by 2022:

The Government has fixed a target of 10% blending of fuel grade ethanol with petrol by 2022 and 20% blending by 2025. This has been done with a view to boost agricultural economy, to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuel, to save foreign exchange on account of crude oil import bill and to reduce the air pollution.

  • The Government has notified about this scheme in January 2021.
  • Now, Meeting held by Department of Food &Public Distribution with States and Industry Associations to implement this scheme.

Home Minister approved Additional Central Assistance over 1,751crore:

High-Level Committee under the Chairmanship of Home Minister Amit Shah has approved Additional Central Assistance of over 1,751crore rupees under the National Disaster Response Fund, NDRF to five states, which were affected by floods, landslides during South-West Monsoon-2020 and hailstorm during Rabi 2019-20.

Department of Economic Affairs and World Bank signed an agreement:

An agreement has been signed between Department of Economic Affairs and World Bank along with the Ministry of Education for providing financial support to STARS project. Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States, STARS project is aimed at improving the overall monitoring and measurement activities in the school education system through interventions in selected states.

Engineer Jobs 2021

  • The total cost of this project is over 5,000 crore rupees and the World Bank will provide the financial support of three thousand 700 crore rupees.
  • Some 250 million students (between the age of six and 17) in 1.5 million schools and over 10 million teachers will benefit from the programme.

Kaja Kallas has become the first female Prime Minister of Estonia:

Kaja Kallas has become the first female Prime Minister of Estonia. The 43 years old Kaja Kallas is a lawyer and the former European Parliament Member. She is the daughter of Sim Kallas who founded the Reform Party. 15-member Cabinet of PM Kaja Kallas took the charge of the office on 26.01.2021 as the new two-party coalition government was sworn. Anna University will organize an online faculty development program:

Anna University’s Centre for medical electronics is organizing an online faculty development program on wearable devices from the 15th to the 19th of February. Wearable devices range from fashionable accessories to smart watches to life saving devices.

  • The program will cover topics like artificial intelligence in wearables, wireless body area networks, applications in areas like healthcare, medicine, sports and fitness, military, virtual reality and assistive technology.
  • The sessions will be handled by eminent speakers from Anna University IIT Madras IIT Bombay and Defence research and development organisation.

Maharashtra launched its Jail Tourism:

Prison Department of Maharashtra launched its jail tourism initiative starting with more than 150-year-old Yerawada Central Prison in Pune. This will show the historic importance of the prison, especially in the freedom struggle.

  • Yerawada Jail has two historic yards, which are groups of cells, named after Gandhi and Tilak, which will be part of the tour for the visitors. These yards do not house inmates.
  • This jail tourism was launched on the occasion of Republic day. Students from a local school in Pune became the first lot to visit the prison as part of the initiative

Veteran Gujarati film and theatre actor Arvind Joshi passed away:

Veteran Gujarati film and theatre actor and film producer Arvind Joshi passed away. He was 84 and under treatment at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai. Late Arvind Joshi had worked in dozens of Gujarati movies including ‘Pardeshi Maniyaro’ and ‘Footpath ni Rani’. He also worked in Hindi block buster movie ‘Sholay’ in 1975.

L&T have received an up to Rs 2,500-crore contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor:

Infrastructure company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on said it has received an up to Rs 2,500-crore contract for Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor project. The order is to procure, fabricate, assemble, paint and transport 28 bridges. This project was secured through a consortium of L&T and IHI Infrastructure Systems (IIS) of Japan.
