Union Budget 2021-22:

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2021-22. It was the India’s first paperless budget and Nirmala Sitharaman was carrying a ‘Made in India’ iPad instead of her iconic Bahi khata. The budget proposals rest on 6 pillars of Health and Wellbeing, Physical & Financial Capital, and Infrastructure, Inclusive Development for Aspirational India, Reinvigorating Human Capital, Innovation and R&D and Minimum Government and Maximum Governance.

Union Education Minister Address ASEAN India Hackathon:

Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ today addressed the inaugural ceremony of the ASEAN India Hackathon.

  • India and ASEAN ties the Ministry of Education have today launched the ASEAN-INDIA Hackathon.
  • The ASEAN India Hackathon is being organized online from 1st -3rd February 2021 and prize distribution will take place on 4th February 2021.
  • This unique hackathon offers opportunities for all the 10 ASEAN countries and India to forward their economic and cultural ties through collaboration in education, science and technology.

CSIR has demonstrated three MCVs:

CSIR has demonstrated its three innovative variants ‘Compact, Medium, Heavy’ category of Mob Control Vehicles (MCVs). The demonstration was successfully carried out at Parade Ground, CRPF Group Centre, Gurugram.

One Nation One Ration Card plan:

Aspirational India is one of the pillars on which the Union Budget 2021-22 stands. One Nation One Ration Card plan is under implementation by 32 states and UTs, reaching about 69 crore beneficiaries. This scheme allows beneficiaries to claim their rations from anywhere in the country, especially the migrant workers.

Finance Minister announced PM Aatmanirbhar Swasthya Bharat Yojana:

This scheme will develop capacities of primary, secondary, and tertiary care health systems, strengthen existing institutions and create new institutions to cater to the detection and cure of new emerging diseases.

Myanmar military Tatmadaw seized power in Myanmar:

Myanmar military has seized power in the country. Myanmar military Tatmadaw today seized power from the civilian government headed by Aung San Suu Kyi. The military arrested Aung San Suu Kyi, President  Win Myint and other senior leaders. Tatmadaw announced that the country has been put under emergency for one year. It appointed Vice President  Myint Swe as the acting President and all powers have been transferred to the Commander in Chief  Min Aung Hlaing.

Startup bluShift Aerospace launches its 1st commercial biofuel rocket:

bluShift Aerospace start-up based Brunswick, has launched its first rocket prototype, named Stardust 1.0. Stardust 1.0 is a small sounding rocket powered by a “bio-derived”. This small rocket billed as the world’s first commercial booster powered by biofuel has launched from Maine.

Seaweed Park in Tamil Nadu will be done:

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that a multipurpose seaweed park in Tamil Nadu will be established. Fisher folk who involved in seaweed collection in the state have no facilities for production and processing of seaweed.

  • As per the finance minister statement, the government is going to create large-scale facilities in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
  • This proposal is part of the Union government’s Central Salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute (CSMCRI).

Tamil Nadu CM announces financial relief to farmers:

Tamil Nadu government will provide the sum of Rs.1,116.97 crore as financial reliefs to farmers. This sum will be credited directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiary. As per the statement of Tamil Nadu CM, the input relief for rain-fed and irrigated paddy crop and other irrigated crops was enhanced to ₹20,000 from ₹13,500 per hectare.

FDI limit will increase from 49% to 74%:

In Union Budget 2021-22, Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Government will amend the Insurance Act, 1938 to increase the permissible FDI. As per the minster statement, FDI limit will increase from 49% to 74% and allow foreign ownership and control with safeguards.

OBITUARIES

Nobel Prize-winner Paul J. Crutzen, has passed away

 Nobel Prize-winning chemist Paul J. Crutzen, has passed away at his 87 age. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1995, jointly with Mario J. Molina and F. Sherwood Rowland, for their work in atmospheric chemistry. Crutzen had discovered that nitrogen pollution was capable of destroying ozone in the atmosphere in 1970.

Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty, assumed the appointment of the Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Lt Gen CP Mohanty takes over the appointment of the Vice Chief of the Army Staff from Lt Gen SK Saini who superannuated on 31 January 2021 after completing four decades of illustrious career in the Army
