Manoj Mukund Narawane appointed new Army Commander-in-Chief:

  • The MM Naravane appointed the next Chief of Defence Staff with Army Chief Gen MM Naravane.
  • The first new Commander-in-Chief of the three forces was Pipin Rawat, followed by Manoj Mukund Narawane as the 28th Commander-in-Chief of the Army.
  • As Commander-in-Chief of the three forces, he also serves as Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs in the Federal Ministry of Defense.
  • The Commander-in-Chief of the Troops is also the Permanent Chairman of the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee and the Chief Adviser to the Minister of Defense.

Defence Equipments are being developed through Make In India Scheme:

  • A large number of security equipment is being manufactured through a number of notable projects under Make In India Scheme, said by Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt
  • Many significant projects including 155mm Artillery Gun system ‘Dhanush’, Bridge Laying Tank, Light Combat Aircraft ‘Tejas’, ‘Akash’ Surface to Air Missile system, Submarine ‘INS Kalvari’, Inshore Patrol Vessel, Offshore Surveillance Ship, ‘INS Chennai’, Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette (ASWC), Arjun Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle, Landing Craft Utility, Bridge Laying Tank, Bi-Modular Charge System (BMCS) for 155mm Ammunition, Thermal Imaging Sight Mark-II for T-72 tank, 25 T Tugs, Water Jet Fast Attack Craft, Offshore Patrol Vessel, Fast Interceptor Boat, INS Kalvari, INS Khanderi, Medium Bullet Proof Vehicle (MBPV), Lakshya Parachute for Pilotless Target Aircraft, etc. have been produced in the country under ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government in last few years.

Illam Thedi  Kalvi Scheme Notice in All Districts in Tamilnadu:

  • School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh has announced that a home-based education program will be implemented in all districts from January.
  • Launched on a trial basis in 12 districts as a “Illam Thedi Kalvi Scheme”.

For the first time a high efficiency new gas stove for domestic PNG has been developed:

  • The Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Rameswar Teli said  that a novel fuel efficient domestic cooking stove for Piped Natural Gas (PNG) has been developed by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) in collaboration with CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) Dehradun.
  • Developed by the Petroleum Safety Research Organization (PCRA) in association with the Petroleum Corporation of India.
  • This is the first product of its kind in the Country. Entire combustion system including burner, mixing tube, venture etc. has been customized in this new stove to handle PNG.
  • The newly developed PNG stove has a thermal efficiency of around 55% in comparison to the maximum efficiency of 40% for the modified LPG stoves presently being used on PNG by the domestic households.
  • PCRA has been promoting this newly developed PNG stove which has a cost almost similar to normal LPG stove.
  • PCRA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) under Ministry of Power for developing and implementing a model for marketing this new PNG stove by EESL for PNG customers on pan India basis.

  • LokpalOnline to bring more transparency and efficiency in the complaint handling mechanism.

Khadi Goes Global Yet Again; US Fashion Brand “Patagonia” Chooses Khadi Denim for its Apparels:

  • Khadi, the symbol of sustainability and purity, has taken a big stride in the global fashion arena. US-based world’s leading fashion brand, Patagonia, is now using handcrafted Khadi Denim fabric for making Denim apparels.
  • In July 2017, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) signed an agreement with Arvind mills Limited, Ahmadabad, to trade Khadi Denim products around the world.
  • Since then, Arvind Mills has been purchasing a large quantity of Khadi Denim fabric every year from KVIC-certified Khadi institutions of Gujarat.
  • This new initiative of KVIC is not only creating extra man hours for Khadi artisans of Gujarat but is also fulfilling the Prime Minister’s dream of “Local to Global.”

Tamil Nadu ranks 2nd in the list of beneficiaries to be assisted under ABRY:

  • Maharashtra followed by Tamilnadu and Gujarat tops the list of states with maximum number of beneficiaries under ABRY.
  • The State-wise number of applications received from companies under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY); the number of beneficiaries State-wise benefited so far from the ABRY along with the total quantum of assistance likely to be provided by the Government.
  • According to the Central Government’s list, 5,35,615 people have benefited from 12,803 companies in Tamil Nadu.

Norway’s Magnus Carlsen wins FIDE World Chess Championship:

  • Reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway defended his title and won the FIDE World Championship in Dubai.
  • He beat Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia, securing the one point he needed to cross the seven-point threshold to win the global tournament held at Dubai’s Expo 2020 this month in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Carlsen clinched his fifth world championship title. Carlsen wins 60% of the 2 million-euro prize offered by the champions.

Max Verstappen beat Lewis Hamilton to win the 2021 F1 Championship in Abu Dhabi and won the final in Abu Dhabi:

  • Max Verstappen secured his maiden World Championship with victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finishing second as the race ended in a nail-biting one-lap sprint after a late Safety Car.
  • The result, which saw Valtteri Bottas finish sixth and Sergio Perez retire, means Mercedes have clinched a record eighth consecutive constructors’ championship.

  • The National Testing Agency  Agency has launched a phone Application processor to help students face entrance exams like NEET and JEE.
  • Subhash Sarkar, Minister of State for Education in the Lok Sabha has said that high quality test exams can be written freely through the website.
  • He said that more than 14 lakh NEET candidates and more than 9 lakh JEE entrance students have applied for registration.
