August 30 – International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances

  • The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30 each year. In December 2010, the UN officially declared that it would annually observe the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30 each year, starting from 2011.

PM launches the Fit India Movement

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the Fit India Movement at a ceremony in New Delhi on the occasion of National Sports Day. Launching the people’s movement on the birth anniversary of Major Dhyanchand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Major Dhyanchand, India’s sports icon who enthralled the world with his game and techniques.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 26th Mela of Ladakhi-Kisan-Jawan-Vigyan Mela 

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 26th Mela of Ladakhi-Kisan-Jawan-Vigyan Mela organised by Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) in Leh, Rajnath Singh said, Kashmir has always been with us and will remain so.

Dindigul lock, Kandangi saree get GI tag

  • The Dindigul lock and the Kandangi saree were given the GI tag by the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai. “Dindigul lock and Kandangi saree were registered,” Chinnaraja G. Naidu, Deputy Registrar of Geographical Indications said that both these products were losing their sheen in the market, and the GI tag would help them get some recognition.

Gorewada International Zoo to be set up at Nagpur

  • The Government has taken a conscious decision to establish an International Standard Zoo and Biopark on the forest land at Gorewada, Nagpur.  Expressing India’s continued commitment towards protecting forests and wildlife, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar stated, “The Zoo will have attractions like Bio Park, Indian Safari, African Safari, Night Safari, Research, Education and Training, facilities for tourists, etc”.

JAMMU KASHMIR

ITIs will be set up in each district of J&K

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, Governor Satyapal Malik has said that Industrial Training Institutes will be set up in each district to impart skills to the youth and give professional training. Addressing a Press conference in Srinagar, he said that 50000 vacancies will be filled up in various government departments in next few months.

Russia set to offer submarines during Modi-Putin summit

  • Russia is likely to offer India its conventional submarines on the government-to-government route under the Navy’s Project-75I at the summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin at Vladivostok next week.

100 % FDI in coal mining will create a competitive coal market

  • Coal and Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that the decision of 100 per cent Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) under the automatic route for coal mining activities is the biggest reform by Modi Government.

  • Civil Aviation Minister Mr Hardeep Singh Puri launched an aviation job portal. Aviation jobs is a unique web-based portal that brings together job seekers and prospective employers in the Indian civil aviation sector.

AWARDS

PM to present Yoga Awards 

  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will present Yoga awards to the winners of PM’s Award for Outstanding Contribution for Promotion and Development of Yoga, which were announced during the International Day of Yoga, 2019 at Ranchi, along with the two winners of the previous year in an event being organized by the Ministry of AYUSH at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. On this occasion, the Prime Minister would also release 12 commemorative postal stamps to honour eminent scholars, Practitioners and great Master Healers of AYUSH Systems.
  • The  Prime Minister will also launch 10 AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres (AYUSH HWCs) located in the state of  Haryana.

SPORTS

India bags gold in 10-meter air pistol event in Shooting World Cup

  • In shooting, Abhishek Verma won the gold medal and Saurabh Chaudhary the bronze, in a dominant display by Indian shooters in the men’s 10m air pistol event of the World Cup at Rio de Janeiro. India were placed at the top of the medals tally with two gold, one silver, and a bronze.
