August 13 – International Lefthanders Day
- International Left Handers Day is observed annually on August 13 to celebrate the uniqueness and differences of the left handers. The day was first observed in the year 1976 by Dean R. Campbell, founder of the Lefthanders International.

Government to start special hospitals offering Indian system of medicines
- Special hospitals offering Indian Systems of Medicines like Siddha and Ayurveda will be started in 150 districts across the country. This was stated by Union Minister of State for AYUSH Shri Sripad Yesso Naik, while inaugurating an Ayurveda medical College in Vellore, Tamilnadu.

15-km long national flag unfurled in Raipur
- In Chhattisgarh, thousands of students and members of several social organisations unfurled a 15-km long national flag by forming a human chain in Raipur ahead of the Independence day. The event, organised by Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam Foundation, entered the Champions Book of World Records (for the longest tricolour).

Typhoon Lekima
- In China, the death toll from Typhoon Lekima in the eastern part of the country has risen to 32. Lekima had crossed into Jiangsu province north of Shanghai and was expected to hit Shandong province later today.

ISRO says Chandrayaan-2 to move towards moon
- Indian Space Research Organisation chairman Dr K Sivan has said, the organization on August 14 will perform a maneuvers called trans-lunar injection by which Chandrayaan 2 will leave earth and move towards the moon’s orbit. The ISRO Chairmans said, the spacecraft will be reaching the moon’s orbit on 20th of this month and it will be landing on the moon’s surface on 7th of next month by performing a series of maneuvers.
Low-cost handheld device to help detect bacteria developed
- Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology – Guwahati (IIT-G) have developed a low-cost handheld biocompatible sensor that can detect bacteria almost instantaneously without cell culture and microbiological assays.

Shankar Rao is new DGP of Sikkim
- Senior IPS officer A. Shankar Rao has been appointed as Sikkim’s new Director General of Police. Rao, a 1987-batch IPS officer of the Sikkim cadre, replaced S.D. Negi, who has been transferred to the Labour Department as Principal Secretary.

National Youth Awards
- Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju conferred the National Youth Awards for 2016-17 on twenty individuals and three organisations at a function in New Delhi today on the occasion of International Youth Day.
- During the National Youth Awards Function, Shri Kiren Rijiju also inaugurated a Photo Exhibition on “China through Eyes of Indian Youth – 2019”. It was an exhibition of photos taken by youth delegates who participated in the recent Youth Exchange Program to China.

- Wimbledon 2019 champion Novak Djokovic remains to be at the top of the ATP rankings while Rafael Nadal, who secured his 35th Masters title takes the second position. Roger Federer stays third and Dominic Thiem fourth.

- Impressed with the Indian women’s football team’s performance in the COTIF Cup in Valencia, the tournament’s president handed the players a special third-placed trophy. India played four matches in the COTIF Cup, out of which they won two.
Aishwarya Pissay becomes first Indian to claim a world title in motorsports
- Aishwarya Pissay became the first Indian to claim a world title in motorsports, annexing the FIM World Cup in the women’s category after the final round of the championship at Varpalota in Hungary.
