1st – 7th August – World Breastfeeding Week

  • The Food and Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women and Child Development, is organizing a number of activities on the theme “Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding” during the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) being observed from 1st to 7th August 2019. The focus this year is on protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding.

Pashmina Products Receive BIS Certification

  • Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has published an Indian Standard for identification, marking and labelling of Pashmina products to certify its purity. The certification will help curb the adulteration of Pashmina and also protect the interests of local artisans and nomads who are the producers of Pashmina raw material.

Varsha Dhare cloud seeding project

  • Deputy Commissioner M. Deepa formally launched the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department’s Varsha Dhare cloud seeding project at Hubballi International Airport. The three-month-long project is aimed augmenting rainfall in North Karnataka.

Ring well unearthed at Keezhadi

  • Nearly 45 days after the fifth phase of excavation commenced at Keezhadi, a ring well has been unearthed.The rings, measuring 1.5 feet in diameter, are made of terracotta, and five rings are visible now. The ring well is an indicator of the advanced water conservation technology of that period.

U.S. formally withdraws from INF arms treaty

  • S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Washington’s formal withdrawal in a prepared statement at the ASEAN meet in Bangkok, minutes after Russia pronounced the treaty to be “dead”. The 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty limited the use of medium-range missiles, both conventional and nuclear.

China no longer top trading partner of U.S.

  • As a result of their ongoing trade war, China is no longer the top trading partner of the United States and has been replaced by America’s neighbours Mexico and Canada, according to a media report.

  • The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG), in association with Department of Administrative Reforms, Government of Rajasthan and the Harish Chandra Mathur Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration (HCMRIPA) will organize the Regional Conference on Good Governance on 14th-15th November, 2019 at Jaipur, Rajasthan.

11th Annual General Meeting of Indo-Lanka Chamber of Commerce & Industry

  • The 11th Annual General Meeting of the Indo-Lanka Chamber of Commerce & Industry was held in Colombo. President of the Indo- Lanka chamber Romesh David in his speech spoke about active engagement between the industries of the two countries.

10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC) Ministerial Meeting

  • Addressing the 10th MGC Ministerial Meeting in the Thai capital Bangkok, Dr Jaishankar said, connectivity is a major focus area of cooperation for India. The MGC, is a sub-regional cooperation organisation comprising India and five ASEAN countries, namely, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

15th meeting of the India-US Defence Policy Group (DPG)

  • Indian and US officials have agreed to pursue a policy environment conducive to collaboration between the defence industry and start-ups in both countries. An understanding in this regard was reached during the 15th meeting of the India-US Defence Policy Group (DPG) in Washington.

India, Guinea sign three MoUs

  • India and Guinea have signed three MoUs .These MoUs were signed between the two countries Cooperation in the Field of Traditional System of Medicine, e- Vidhyabharati – e-Aarogya Bharati e-VBAB Network Project and Renewal Energy.

Journalist Ravish Kumar wins 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award

  • Senior Indian television journalist Ravish Kumar has been awarded the 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award. Kumar is among five individuals who were declared winners of the award, which is Asia’s premier prize and often referred to as the Asian version of the Nobel Prize.

President Kovind honoured with National order of Merit, highest award of Republic of Guinea

  • President Ram Nath Kovind has been awarded the National order of Merit by the President of Guinea for his exceptional contribution to the advancement of overall relations and development of mutual cooperation between India and Guinea and for promoting friendship and partnership between the people of both the countries.

Adarsh Singh wins double gold in shooting meet

  • In Shooting, young Adarsh Singh outclassed his rivals in the Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters competition, winning the gold medal in both the men and junior 25 metres rapid fire pistol event in New Delhi.

Guwahati, Kolkata to host World Cup Qualifiers

  • All India Football Federation (AIFF) general secretary Kushal Das confirmed to Sportstar that Guwahati’s Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium and Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium will host the Indian football team’s opening two World Cup Qualifiers home matches.
