National News

Voice of Global South summit 2023

  • In a new and unique initiative, India will host a special virtual summit, the Voice of Global South summit, on January 12 and 13, 2023 as Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra said on 6/01/2023.
  • “The ‘Voice of Global South Summit’ under the theme ‘Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose’ envisages bringing together countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform. More than 120 countries are being invited to participate in this Summit.

Joint Air Exercise, ‘Veer Guardian-2023

  • In order to promote Air Defense cooperation between the countries, India and Japan are all set to hold the joint Air Exercise called ‘Veer Guardian-2023’ involving the Indian Air Force and Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) at Hyakuri Air Base, Japan from 12 January 2023 to 26 January 2023.
  • The Indian contingent participating in the air exercise will include four Su-30 MKI, two C-17 & one IL-78 aircraft, while the JASDF will be participating with four F-2 & four F-15 aircraft.

UK records warmest year as 2022

  • 2022 was considered as the warmest year on record for the United Kingdom. The report was released by Official of the country’s weather agency on 6 Jan 2023 showed the latest evidence that climate change is transforming Europe’s weather.
  • Across twelve months, the mean temperature in the country was 10.03 degrees Celsius, and this is the highest since comparable records began in 1884. The previous record was 9.88 degrees Celsius set in 2014.

List of cities where women to work safely survey

  • A survey conducted by Avatar Group collected data from 300 companies in 111 cities.
  • The organization has published a list of cities where women can work safely as a compilation of more than 200 data, including the Women’s Current Ease of Life Index, National Census, Crime Records, Ministry of Women and Child Development’s annual report.

Government school classrooms have been started with digital technology tools in Tamil Nadu

  • Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanithi Stalin launched the system of easy learning for students through Japan Digital technology tools in Chennai Municipal Schools on 06/01/2023.
  • This scheme is currently provided in 18 Chennai schools at an estimate of Rs.3 lakh per classroom and through this the teaching method of the teachers, the learning method of the students has been simplified and the students have been set up to face public examinations and competitive examinations easily.

Military Tattoo & Tribal Dance Festival-2023

  • The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs are jointly organizing the festival called a Military Tattoo and Tribal Dance Festival – Aadi Shaurya – Parv Parakram Ka will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi on the 23rd January 2023.
  • The aim of the festival is to remember the sacrifices of the country’s brave hearts and celebrate the rich cultural heritage which makes India so unique and diverse, and the objective is to celebrate together the bravery of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Astro Tourism – A Sky Gazing event

  • Minister of State for Culture, Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated Astro Tourism – A Sky Gazing event at Delhi’s India Gate on 6th January 2023 by National Council of Science Museums in association with Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
  • The Astro Tourism event includes various activities like Astro Talks by expert Astronomers, an Exhibition on Astronomy, Storytelling related to celestial objects, an Experience of using the telescope to see the craters of the Moon, Astronomy Activities, a Photographic Panel Exhibition, and Astro-Photography.

26th National Youth Festival -2023

  • Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai released the logo and mascot of the National Youth Festival to be held in Hubballi-Dharwad twin cities from the 12th to 16th of January in Karnataka.
  • The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12th January 2023.The theme of the 26th Youth Festival is Vikasit Yuva-Vikasit Bharat.

A New speaker of the US House of Representatives was elected

  • California Republican leader Kevin McCarthy has been elected as the Speaker of the US House of Representatives. The divided Republicans took 15 rounds of voting over four days to elect the speaker.
  • 57-year-old McCarthy got 216 votes in the final tally, to be elected as Washington’s top legislator, who presides over House business and is second in line to the presidency.

Science and Technology

World’s first vaccine for bees in the US

  • Bees play a very important role in pollination of plants, and currently bees are most affected by foulbrood, a disease caused by bacteria.
  • The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has granted a conditional license to a vaccine to provide protection against the disease, developed by US-based biotech company Talon Animal Health.
    • Also this is the world’s first disease prevention drug introduced for bees.

79th Grand Master Degree of India

  • Pranesh, a 15-year-old school student from Karaikudi, Sivagangai district, has won the 28th Chess Grandmaster title of Tamil Nadu, and 79th grand master of India.
  • It is also noteworthy that he has won silver in the Commonwealth tournament, gold in the Asian chess tournament and bronze in the under-16 international chess tournament.

National Men’s Boxing Championship

  • The 6th National Boxing Championship for Men was held in Hisar, Haryana.
    • In this competition, the Services team again won the champion title with 6 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
    • The Railway team is in 2nd place with 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
    • Punjab stands 3rd place with 1gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Mascot, torch and anthem of Khelo India Youth Games to be unveiled in Bhopal

  • Madhya Pradesh is hosting the fifth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games. In this sports event, to be held from the 30th of January to the 11th of February, six thousand players will show their sports skills in eight different cities for 13 days.
  • In that scenario Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will unveil the mascot, torch, and anthem of Khelo India Youth Games-2022 in a colorful program at Shaurya Smarak in Bhopal.
