Nobel Prize in Chemistry-2022

  • Nobel Prize is the highest award in the world. Nobel Prizes are awarded to achievers who have made global contributions in the fields of medicine, physics, chemistry, literature, economics and peace.
  • In this case, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded and shared by to 3 people’s namely Caroline R. Bertossi, Morton Meldel and K.Barry Sharpless.

 Nobel Prize in Physics-2022

  • The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 to Alain Aspect,John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger.
  • They have been awarded the Nobel Prize for their work on Quantum mechanics.

Hindu Temple in Dubai All Set for Grand Inauguration

  • The first ever Hindu temple in Dubai was inaugurated on October 5.
  • Crafted of white marble, the temple houses the idols of 16 Hindu deities.

National News

The Home Minister launched projects worth Rs.1960 crore in Jammu

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for 263 development projects worth Rs.1960 crore which will give more impetus to the social and economic development of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • This includes inauguration of 82 projects worth around Rs 500 crore and foundation laying of 181 projects worth Rs 1460 crore.

An MoU was signed between the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and NAFED to promote the International Year of Millets (IYOM)-2023.

  • A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited in New Delhi.
  • Both organisations will work together for the promotion and marketing of millet-based products, keeping in view the initiative of the International Year Of Millets (IYOM)-2023

Indias first human-carrying drone, to be inducted into Navy soon

  • India’s first passenger drone, built by Pune-based Sagar Defence Engineering, will soon be inducted into the Indian Navy.
  • Named “Varuna”, the drone has a payload capacity of 130 kilograms and a range of 25 to 30 kilometers.

PM Modi inaugurate AIIMS Bilaspur

  • PM Modi dedicates Himachal Pradesh Bilaspur AIIMS Hospital to the nation.
  • Modi also laid foundation stones for projects worth 3,650 crores at the event held at Luhnu Maidan.

UNESCO has added Durga Pooja to the list of cultural heritage of mankind

  • In 2019, the Union Government had recommended to UNESCO to include Durga Pooja in UNESCO’s list of cultural heritage of humanity.
  • Based on that recommendation, Durga Pooja has now been announced in the list of cultural heritage of mankind.
  • Also UNESCO Heritage List has many Indian traditional festivals namely Kumbha Mela, Yoga, Jandiala in Punjab etc.

Tamil Nadu Governor inaugurated World Space Week in Sriharikota

  • Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi inaugurated the World Space Week from October 4 to 10 at the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
  • 1957, October 4 – Sputnik is the first satellite launched into space.
  • On October 10, 1967, the Outer Space Peace Treaty was signed by the nations of the world
  • In 1999, the UN General Assembly officially declared that to remember the two days (two events) between October 4 and 10 as World Space Week.

Achievement of 1.07 lakh drinking water connections on Gandhi Jayanti in Uttar Pradesh

  • Utter Pradesh government has announced to provide drinking water to 1.07 lakh households on Gandhi Jayanti.
  • This project was implemented to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
  • Also on 17th September – on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, 1.21 lakh drinking water connection was implemented.

 Jio 5G service to be launched in 4 cities of India

  • 5G network, the 5th generation of telecommunication service, has been launched in four cities in India on a trial basis.
  • Jio has announced that it will launch trial-based 5G services in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Varanasi.
  • In a statement released by Jio, Jio’s True 5G beta service will be offered at a speed of 1 Gbps in these 4 cities.

QR service’s was  launched in Bengaluru for medical assistance during road traffic

  • Karnataka has introduced QR service to get immediate medical assistance during road transport in Bangalore.
  • By scanning the QR code attached to the electric poles along the roadsides, people can get immediate medical assistance through the ambulance service.

Sanjeev Kishore has been appointed as the new Director General of Military Logistics C&S Wing:

  • Sanjeev Kishore, a 1985 batch Indian Army Logistics Industrial Service, took charge as Director General of Army Logistics (C&S) Wing.
  • Kishore has been appointed to this post with effect from 01.10.2022 after the retirement of M.Grag, who held the post.
  • Prior to this appointment, Kishor has held various senior positions including Additional Director General and Managing Director, Directorate of Military Logistics and Services, Kolkata.

 Appointment of Dr. Rajendra Kumar as Director General of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC):

  • Rajendra Kumar, a senior IAS officer from Tamil Nadu, has taken charge as the Director General of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
  • He previously served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY), Government of India.
  • Also served as Principal Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Youth Welfare and Sports Development Departments, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Commonwealth Boxing Medalist Jasmine Lamboria joins Indian Army

  • In 22nd Commonwealth Games, India’s Jasmin Lamboria won a bronze medal in the women’s boxing event in the 60 kg category.
  • In a press release issued by the Indian Army that Jasmin Lamboria has been appointed as a Havildar in the Army Police Force under the Indian Army’s ‘Mission Olympics’
  • Notably, Jasmin has also won medals in many national and international competitions including Khelo India Youth Games 2020, Women’s National Boxing Championship, Women’s World Boxing Championship.

 Tamil Nadu’s Archana Suchindran wins gold in 200m race at National Games

  • Tamil Nadu’s Archana suchendran won gold in the 200m race at the 36th National Games.
  • Archana Suchindran won the 200m race by around 23 seconds
  • It is to be noteworthy that Archana won the gold medal by beating the top player Hima Das from Assam.

International Hockey Federation Awards 2022

  • Every year the International Hockey Federation presents awards in various categories to honor the best men and women players.
  • India Women’s Senior Hockey Team player Mumtaz Khan has won the women’s rising star Award for 2021-22.
  • World’s various hockey bodies, captains, coaches, players, fans and members of the media members to participate in voting system in online to select the award winners.

 Djokovic wins Tel Aviv Open tennis title:

  • Tel Aviv Watergen Open International Tennis Tournament held in Israel.
  • In its singles final, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic faces Croatia’s Marin Cilic.Djokovic defeated Marin Cilic in 6-3, 6-4 points to win the title.
  • And this is his 89th international singles title.

 36th National Games 2022:

  • Uttar Pradesh’s Ram Babu broke the national record by winning the men’s 35km race walk gold medal.
  • Ram Babu won the event in 2 hours 36 minutes 34 seconds, breaking the previous national record of 2:40.16.
  • Haryana’s Junt Khan won the second with a time of 2:40.51.

 World Teachers’ Day

  • World Teachers’ Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is an international day held annually on October 5.
  • UNESCO proclaimed October 5 to be World Teachers’ Day in 1994. They chose October 5th because it was on this date in 1966 when a significant step was made for teachers in 1966.
