National News

Pariksha Pe Charcha 2023

  • Pariksha Pe Charcha is an annual event held every year since 2018. During the event the Prime Minister of India interacts with students, teachers and parents from across the country, and shares valuable tips on how to take board and entrance exams in a relaxed and stress free manner.
  • As per the Ministry of Education, PM Modi’s special initiative called 6th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2023 will be held on January 27,2023 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.

An MoU signed between Hindustan Copper Limited and Indian Institute of Technology

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborative and sponsored research projects was signed between Hindustan Copper Limited and Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, at HCL Corporate Office in Kolkata.
  • The MoU signed for providing necessary technical assistance, guidance and advice by IIT (ISM) to HCL. Also, measures to improve the production level through new technologies in metal production and to solve various environmental problems will be carried out.

1st All India Annual State Ministers Conference on Water

  • The Ministry of Jal Shakti is organizing the “1st All India Annual State Ministers Conference on Water’’ with the theme “Water Vision@2047” in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on 5th & 6th January, 2023.
  • The primary objective of the 2-days Conference is to gather inputs for the India@2047 and 5P vision from the different water stakeholders of the states, water being a state subject, and also to improve engagement and partnership with the states.

Ministry of Youth Affairs started the special online series titled ‘Fit India-Sunday Talks’

  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ flagship programme, Fit India Movement will start a special online series titled ‘Fit India-Sunday Talks’ from 8th January till the 26th February.
  • Eminent fitness experts and Fit India icons will participate in this online talk show to be aired on the official Instagram and YouTube handles of Fit India, every Sunday at 11 am.

Union Minister inaugurated Intelligent Tray Retrieval System (ITRS) Virtually

  • Union Minister for MSME, Shri Narayan Rane, inaugurated virtually Intelligent Tray Retrieval System (ITRS), Manufactured by M/s SJK Innovations Pvt. Ltd,a MSME-Make in India Company at MOPA (GOA) International airport.
  • The ITRS is a machine equipped with image analysis software with advanced tools that makes it easy for the screener and is an Artificial Intelligence based fully automatic machine.

Apollo 7 mission astronaut Walter Cunningham passed away

  • The last surviving astronaut from the first successful crewed space mission in NASA’s Apollo programme, Walter Cunningham has passed away at the age of 90.
  • Cunningham was one of the three astronauts aboard the 1968 Apollo 7 mission.

State news

Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district administration launches e-library

  • e-library has launched to benefit thousands of students of the district by providing them with notes and study material prepared by the best subject matter specialists in the district in Jammu and Kashmir, the Doda district administration.
  • The website called adbhutdoda.org/elibrary shall have the facility of reading, downloading and getting the notes.

Gaan Ngai festival 2023 in Manipur

  • The Gaan Ngai festival is one of the major festivals of Manipur which is celebrated every year after harvesting this year the festival will be celebrated on 4th January 2023.
  • The festival also marks the end of the year when the farmers have stored their food grain in their granaries. During the festival, the Zeliarong community shows their gratitude by offering to the almighty a good harvest and praying for a better and prosperous life in the coming year.
    • The Zeliarong community in Manipur comprises Rongmei, Liangmei, and Zeme tribes.

 Union Minister inaugurates 29 Mobile Veterinary Unit in Thiruvananthapuram

  • Union Minister of FHAD Shri Parshottam Rupala, will inaugurate 29 Mobile Veterinary Units and centralized call center in Thiruvananthapuram on 5 th January 2023, MVUs will act as one-stop Centre for solutions to veterinary issues.
  • These MVUs will be operated through a centralized call centre with a uniform Helpline No. 1962, and it will provide diagnosis treatment, vaccination, artificial insemination, minor surgical interventions, audio-visual aids and extension services to farmers / animal owners at their doorstep in far flung areas.

Toll-free number to report grievances of temples was introduced in Tamil Nadu

  • In Tamil Nadu, Hindu Religious Charities Minister PK Sekar Babu launched a toll-free telephone number service for the public and devotees to know the details related to temples and report their grievances.
  • Toll free number 1800 425 1757 and 24 hour help desk Public and devotees are already giving grievances and guidelines are being issued. Steps have been taken to implement this service in about 4,700 temples within 2 weeks.

Madhya Pradesh government to launch Chief Minister’s Residential Land Rights Scheme

  • Chief Minister’s Residential Land Rights Scheme (Mukhyamantri Aavaseya Bhoomi Adhikaar Yojana) will be launched from Bakpura Panchayat of Tikamgarh district on 04 January 2023 in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will distribute free leases of residential land to selected beneficiaries. Applications of 14 lakh people have been received from all over the state.

Malayalam woman appointed as US judge

  • Julie A. Mathew, a Malayalam woman of Indian origin, takes office as a judge in the United States for the second time as a judge in Fort Bend County, Texas.
  • Previously, Julie A. Mathew worked as an attorney for 15 years. In the election for the position, he ran as a Democrat and defeated Republican candidate Andrew Dornburg. And she will hold office for 4 years.

NASA shares rare photo of ‘Planet Parade’

  • Planetary transits are an astronomical phenomenon. NASA recently shared a photo of a rare event called Planet Parade.
  • In which all the planets of our solar system were visible from Earth at the same time and it’s known as the ‘Planet Parade’, the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn can be seen simultaneously.

Pravasi Bharatiya samman award 2023

  • Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards (PBSA) is conferred by the President of India on selected overseas Indians (Non-Resident Indian, Person of Indian Origin or an organization or institution established and run by the Non-Resident Indians or Persons of Indian Origin).
  • The 17th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is scheduled to be held from 8–10 January 2023 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award is the highest honor conferred on overseas Indians.
    • Vaikuntam Iyer Lakshmanan, Canadian scientist among 27 others receives the award.
