Union Minister inaugurates “Incubation Centre” at NRDC HQ in Delhi

  • Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated “Incubation Centre” at National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) head quarters in Delhi to provide multi-prong support to StartUps.
  • From this the global market for Indian technologies should be found and NRTC should aim to provide technology transfer services especially to African and Asian countries.

India has assumed the chairmanship of Wassenaar Arrangement

  • India has assumed the chairmanship of the plenary of the Wassenaar Arrangement on 1 January 2023 for one year,India joined the Wassenaar Arrangement (WA) on 08 December 2017 as its 42nd Participating State.
  • The Wassenaar Arrangement was established in July 1996 at Wassenaar, Netherlands. It is a voluntary export control regime of 42 member countries.
    • The main aim of the Wassenaar agreement is to discourage its member countries from exporting conventional weapons and dual-use goods and technologies to countries which are a threat to global peace.

Dhaka Lit Fest 2023

  • Dhaka Lit Fest (also known as Dhaka Literary Festival or DLF) is an annual literary festival held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, which began in 2011 with the commitment to promoting Dhaka, and Bangladeshi literature and culture to the world.
  • More than 500 literary personalities across the globe including Nobel Prize Winner Abdulrazak Gurnah will be taking part in the 10th edition of the Dhaka Lit Fest (DLF) to be held between Jan 5-8, 2023.

Croatia adopted the euro as its currency

  • Croatia adopted the euro as its currency on 1 January 2023, becoming the 20th member state of the eurozone. This was the first expansion of the monetary union since Lithuania joined in 2015.
  • Croatia’s previous currency, the kuna, used the euro as its main reference since its creation in 1994, The Croatian National Bank will exchange kuna banknotes without a time limit, and kuna coins until 31 December 2025.

Nepal PM inaugurates Pokhara Regional International Airport amidst grand ceremony in Pokhara

  • Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the Pokhara Regional International Airport amidst a grand ceremony in Pokhara January 1, 2023.
  • On the occasion, the Prime Minister unveiled a plaque marking the official inauguration of the airport. and the government will provide support for the operation and for the construction of other remaining infrastructures for the airport.

Star festival to be celebrated in Tamil Nadu

  • Astronomy program called Star festival will be held for three days from 7th to 9th January 2023 under the auspices of Tamilnadu Astronomy and Science Corporation.
  • On January 7, 1610 AD, the astronomer Galileo Galilei discovered our solar system’s planet Jupiter through his telescope and discovered the four moons around it for the first time. In order to remember the event the festival is celebrated.

Nalam 365 YouTube channel has been launched for the Department of Public Welfare in Tamil Nadu

  • Nalam 365 YouTube channel was launched by health & family Welfare Minister M.Subramanian to explain the complete functions of the People’s Welfare Department.
  • Specially developed for the Public Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu to share information on State Health Welfare Schemes, Medical Education Activities, Rural Medical Services, Infectious Disease Awareness, Vaccination Schemes etc.

Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha takes over charge as chief Of IAF Western Air Command

  • Air Marshal Pankaj Mohan Sinha assumed command of the Indian Air Force’s Western Air Command on 01 January 2023.
  • The Air Marshal is a graduate of National Defence Academy, Pune and was commissioned into the IAF as a fighter pilot in June 1985; he succeeds Air Marshal S Prabhakaran who superannuated on 31 December 2022.

New Chairman and CEO of Railway Board was appointed

  • Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti has taken over the charge of new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board (Ministry of Railways). Prior to this, Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti has worked as Member (Infrastructure), Railway Board.
  • A 1984 batch Indian Railway Engineer, Mr. Lahodi held various positions in the Central, Northern, Central North, Western and Midwestern Railways and Railway Boards during his 36 years of experience.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva sworn in as 39th president of Brazil

  • Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been sworn in as the 39th president of Brazil following the 2022 Brazilian general election.
  • 77-year-old Lula narrowly defeated Jair Bolsonaro in October with 50.90 percent of the vote to win an unprecedented third presidential term, in his previous years as Workers Party (PT) president from 2003 to 2010.

Election Commission appoints Maithili Thakur as Bihar’s state icon

  • Folk singer Maithili Thakur was appointed as the state icon for Bihar by the Election Commission on Monday (2/3/2023).
  • Election commission said that this singer will create awareness among the voters for their participation in the electoral process, a senior official of the state.
    • Thakur, trained in Indian classical and folk music, was recently selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar of the Sangeet Natak Akademi for her contribution to the folk music of Bihar for 2021.

Football player Ronaldo joins in Saudi Arabia club

  • Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a contract to play for Saudi Arabian football club Al Nassr.
  • According to the contract with Al Nassr Club, Ronaldo will play with the club for about two and a half years till June 2025 and the contract earns him around Rs 1,655 crores per annum making him the highest paid player in the world of football.

India’s 78th Chess Grandmaster

  • Under the International Chess Federation, a Grand Master is awarded only if there are 3 players who have passed 2,500 points and won the Grand Master title consecutively.
  • 19-year-old chess player Gaustav Chatterjee from Kolkata has become India’s 78th Grandmaster. In the 59th National Senior Chess Championship, he reached the final qualification for grandmaster by fighting to a draw against Mitrapa.
