Youth – SPIC MACAY Conference inaugurated in Nagpur.

  • The 8th International Conference of Organization for Promotion of Indian Classical Music among Youth – “SPIC MACAY” started on May 29 at “Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology” in Nagpur.
  • Incredible India organization and the Union Ministry of Culture have planned to hold this cultural conference till June 4. The main objective of the conference is to create awareness about Indian culture and traditions among the new generation and to create a “Gurukula Ashram” style environment for music learners.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) plans to hold a “Unique Conference on Crypto Auditing” in Dubai.

  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has organized a major conference in Dubai focusing on crypto, public policy and emerging standards in the field of auditing.
  • The conference aims to promote quality management systems within audit firms.

BPCL has introduced “Ethanol-Diesel” blend to reduce emission.

  • Bharat Petroleum has introduced and started production of a blend of “Diesel-Ethanol” to achieve “Net Zero Sustainability” and reduce smog emissions.
  • BPCL said the move would achieve its flagship “Net Zero Goal” by 2040.

India has extended a credit facility of USD 1 billion to Sri Lanka for 1 year.

  • An amendment to the USD 1 billion credit facility extension agreement was signed in Sri Lanka on May 30.
  • The credit facility is a “finance provided by India to the Government of Sri Lanka for procurement of essential commodities.

Achieving “zero emission public transport” by 2050 – Dubai target.

  • Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has set a new target of achieving “Zero Emission Public Transport” by 2050.
  • Public transportation, building amenities and waste management are also being developed with the aim of reducing the carbon footprint and mitigating climate change.

Opening of de-addiction centres in all districts of Telangana.

  • The Telangana government has announced that at least one de-addiction center will be set up in one district to treat those addicted to “alcoholism and other drugs”.
  • The Telangana government has announced that drug addicts will be offered “free treatment, yoga and vocational counseling” at these centers. As a precursor to this initiative, Andhra Pradesh has set up 18 de-addiction centers in 13 districts in 2014.

Tamilnadu government has signed MoUs with six Japanese companies for investment worth Rs.818.90 crore.

  • Various action agreements were signed during his official visit to Japan to bring many new investments and technologies to Tamil Nadu and to invite Japanese leaders to the World Investors Conference to be held in Chennai in January 2024.
  • This agreement has been entered into with 6 companies namely Kyokuto satrac, Mitsuba, Shimizu , Kohyei, Salo-Shaji Metal Works for the development of various industries in Tamilnadu.

CAG Girish Chandra Murmu re-elected as auditor of WHO.

  • India’s Comptroller of Auditor General (CAG) Girish Chandra Murmu has been re-elected as the external auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a four-year term from 2024 to 2027.
  • He already held the post at WHO for a four-year term from 2019 to 2023. Significantly, he was re-elected with a majority of 114 out of 156 votes in the first round of elections held on May 29 at the 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva.

Sachin Appointed as Smiling Ambassador of Maharashtra’s “Swachh Mukh Abhiyan”.

  • On May 30, Sachin Tendulkar was appointed as the “Smile Ambassador” of Maharashtra’s Swachh Mukh Abhiyan, which aims to “Promote Oral Hygiene” across the state.
  • Swachh Mukh Abhiyan, abbreviated as SMA, is part of the Indian Dental Association’s (IDA) national campaign aimed at improving oral hygiene practices among the Indian population.

Selection of “Digvijay Chautala” as Chairman of HAI.

  • Handball Association of India (HAI) president Digvijay Chautala and general secretary of the organization “Jagan Mohan Rao” have been elected in the recent elections.
  • The selection is a major breakthrough in solving the months-long problems faced by the Indian Handball Association, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on May 29.

Narayanasamy” has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. MGR Medical University.

  • He has 33 years of experience in medical work and his appointment will be for three years. Narayanasamy succeeds Dr Sudha Seshayan who was the “10th Vice-Chancellor” of MGR Medical University.
  • Notably, he was awarded a prestigious award by the state government for his contribution during the Covid outbreak.

Archaeological discovery

2100 year old rock paintings discovered

  • 2,100-year-old red rock paintings by Neolithic people have been discovered at Puli malai in Pulipatti near Mellur, Madurai district.
  • There are more than 100 red paintings of human figures, animals and symbols on the Puli Malai rock. It is considered to belong to the Stone Age. It is noteworthy that such paintings have been found in six places in Madurai.

Chennai Super Kings won the trophy for the 5th time in the history of IPL.

  • Chennai Super Kings won their “5th IPL title” after defeating defending champions Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 29 night.
  • Devon Conway won the “Man of the Match” award and Shubman Gill the “Player of  the Tournament award” in this year’s IPL.

Obituary

Suresh Dhanorkar alias Balu, Congress MP from Maharashtra passed away.

  • 47-year-old Dhanorkar, Maharashtra’s Congress MP, was admitted to a hospital in Nagpur on May 26 for “kidney stone surgery” but succumbed to his injuries on May 30.
  • It is notable that he is the only candidate of the Indian National Congress who has been elected as an MP from the currently ruling Maharashtra.

  • “World Anti Tobacco Day” is observed every year on 31st May to create awareness among people around the world about the dangers and health problems caused by smoking.
  • “We need food, not tobacco” is the theme for this year.
