National News

G 20 International Financial Architecture Working Group meeting held in Chandigarh

  • The first G20 International Financial Architecture Working Group meeting under the G20 Indian Presidency will be held on 30-31 January 2023 in Chandigarh.
  • The meeting will also focus on exploring ways to provide maximum support to poor and vulnerable countries and also discuss ways to enhance the stability and cohesion of the international financial architecture and how to make it fit for addressing the global challenges of the 21st century.

G20 energy transition group meeting will be held in Bangalore

  • Bangalore will host the first meeting of the Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) of the G20 on February 5 to 7, 2023.
  • “The first meeting will focus on six priority areas. These include
    • energy transition through addressing technology gaps,
    • low-cost financing for energy transition,
    • energy security and diversified supply chains,
    • energy efficiency,
    • industrial low carbon transitions and responsible consumption,
    • fuels for future and universal access to clean energy and just,
    • affordable and inclusive Energy Transition pathway,”

Supersite and a mobile air quality monitoring station launched in Delhi

  • Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated a ‘supersite’ and a mobile air quality monitoring station meant for a real-time source apportionment study to identify the sources of air pollution in Delhi on 30th January 2023.
  • Equipment has been installed at the site to monitor pollution levels and other parameters including wind direction, humidity and temperature, and determine the sources of pollution in Delhi in real-time.

Niranjan Pujari become the new health minister of Odisha

  • Naba Das, health minister of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s cabinet in odisha, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds he sustained at Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda on 29th January
  • Aday after Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das was shot dead; the State government has allocated the department to Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari as new health minister of odisha.

90 lakh saplings planted in J&K this year under ‘Har Gaon Haryali’

  • Jammu and Kashmir government’s ambitious initiative ‘Har Gaon Hariyali’ has recorded a plantation of 90 lakh saplings during the current fiscal against the set target of plantation of 1.35 crore seedlings.
  • The UT Government launched this initiative in consonance with the vision of ‘Green Jammu and Kashmir’ to ensure sustainable development and promote climate justice across J&K.

Petr Pavel Became the new President of the Czech Republic

  • Petr Pavel, a former chairman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military committee, has become the new president of the Czech Republic.
  • Pavel, 61, defeated billionaire Andrej Babis in a run-off vote to replace controversial President Milos Zeman as he emerged as the new Czech President. A former military general, Pavel got more than 58 per cent of the vote, according to the Czech Statistics Office.

NMDC Signed MoA with Boxer Nikhat Zareen as its Brand Ambassador

  • NMDC is a National miner and India’s largest producer of iron ore and signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with World Boxing Champion Nikhat Zareen to represent NMDC as its brand ambassador.
  • The company has chosen to be represented by someone who shares their commitment to bringing honor to the country.

Archaeological studies

16th century meridians have been discovered Madurai in Tamil Nadu

  • In the study carried out by researchers in Thirumangalam area of Madurai, 4 Hero stone and one flint stone were found on the same slab, which the researchers said were Hero stone dating back to the 16th century.
  • The researchers also said that as male and female sculptures are shown in standing position, the people of the region worship these stones as Vedan and Vedachi.

Union Minister of State launched the book called “When they conversed”

  • L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, launched Sadhna Shanker’s book “When they conversed ” at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
  • The book is a collection of published articles and blog posts by the author dealing with contemporary issues and ideas that are changing people’s lives.
    • Shanker is a civil servant and this is her sixth publication.

  • The Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup was held in South Africa.
  • India won the Under-19 Women’s T20 Championship by beating England by 7 wickets in the final match held between India and England.

World Cup Hockey championship 2023

  • The 15th World Cup of Hockey was held from January 13 to January 29 at Bhubaneswar and Rourkela in Odisha.
  • In the final between Germany and Belgium, Germany won the trophy for the 3rd time after defeating Belgium in a penalty shootout.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched app for KIYG 2023

  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has launched a special mobile application named as Khelo India Games, This is the first time that App has been launched for the Khelo India Youth Games.
  • In order to ensure that participating athletes, coaches, support staff, parents of athletes and officials from all states participating in the Games have access to all information about the Games,through the entire course of the Games.
