Mansukh mandaviya inaugurated the National Training Center for Food Safety and Standards Commission of India

  • Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mansukh Mandavia inaugurated the state-of-the-art National Training Center of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
  • FSSAI recognizes the importance of skill development for food business operators and other stakeholders and has established this National Training Center to provide various training programmes An e-learning app was also launched to provide Food Safety and Certification (FoSTaC) for Street Vendors 

Appointments 

Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand sworn in as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA)

  • An Air Marshal, an alumnus of the National Defense Academy, has been commissioned as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA) in the executive branch of the Indian Air Force. He completed Higher Air Command Course at Air War College in 1987 and Area Control Course at Singapore Aviation Academy. 
  • Earlier he was Director General at Air Headquarters, New Delhi and was awarded the Wished Seva Medal by the President of India in January 2022 for his distinguished service.

Air Commodore Sanjay Chopra took charge of Hinton Air Force Base

  • Air Commodore Sanjay Chopra took over the command of Hinton Air Force Base from Air Commodore Vinay Pratap Singh.
  • An alumnus of the College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad, Air Commodore Sanjay Chopra was commissioned as a helicopter pilot in the Indian Air Force in December 1995. He has flown more than 4700 hours as a flying instructor. He is also a recipient of the Vayu Sena Medal.

Upadhyay takes over as Director General of Naval Armament 

  • P Upadhyay took over as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA), Indian Navy. He took over from KSC Iyer who retired on May 31.
  • Upadhyay has held various responsibilities in various branches of the Navy. He has a master’s degree in electrical engineering and specializes in missile technology.

Bidyut Bihari Swain sworn in as UPSC member

  • Mr Bidyut Bihari Swain was sworn in as a UPSC member on June 1. He was administered the oath of office by Dr. Manoj Soni, Chairman, UPSC.
  • Bidyut Bihari Swain, who took office as the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Industries in 2021, has held the charge till May 2023.

New study discovers 62 desiccation-tolerant vascular plant species

  • India’s biodiversity hotspot, the Western Ghats, has 62 desiccation-tolerant vascular plant species that can be used in agriculture, especially in water-scarce areas, a new study has found.
  • Out of the list of 62 species, 16 are Indian species and 12 are endemic to the Western Ghats, highlighting the importance of WG as a global DT hotspot. According to the study, apart from rocks, tree trunks in partially shaded forests were also found to be important habitats for DD species.

Green panacea for reclamation of effluents discharged during crude oil excavation and processing

  • A material has been discovered to help recover wastewater discharged during crude oil excavation and processing. This green panacea is formulated with a mixture of plant-based biomass, biosurfactant and NPK fertilizer.
  • This “wonder mixture” helps prevent environmental pollution from water generation and is used to maintain the green revolution. It also helps increase crop production to meet the ever-growing food demand.

Veer Chotrani, Anahat Singh win National Circuit Squash Championship

  • Maharashtra’s Veer Chotrani and Delhi’s Anahat Singh won the men’s and women’s singles titles at the National Circuit Squash Tournament. The competition is jointly sponsored by Rubicon Consumer Healthcare and HPITS.
  • Chotrani defeated Suraj Market in straight sets 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, Anahat defeated Urvashi 11-7, 11-8, 11-3 to become the senior champion.

Telangana Statehood Day was celebrated on 2nd June

  • On 2nd June 2014, Telangana was officially separated from Andhra Pradesh. This year was 9th statehood day of Telangana. The struggle of Telangana to generate a new state began in the early 1950s.
