National News

Revamped Monument Mitra Scheme

  • The scheme will bring more than a thousand monuments under the private sector. Under the scheme, the Ministry of Culture will sign at least 500 agreements with private sectors before August 15, 2023.
  • Revamping means improving a structure or changing its appearance. The scheme is to be implemented by the Ministry of Culture. A thousand monuments selected under the scheme are now under the maintenance of the Archaeological Survey of India.

World’s first intranasal COVID19 vaccine, iNNCOVACC

  • Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare unveiled the iNNCOVACC COVID19 vaccine on 26th January 2023.
  • It is developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) in collaboration with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance (BIRAC), a PSU under the Dept of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology.

Odesa, Ukraine has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO

  • The United Nations’ cultural agency, UNESCO, said that it had designated the historic centre of Odesa, a strategic port city on Ukraine’s Black Sea coast, a World Heritage in Danger site on 25th January 2023.
  • The status, awarded by a UNESCO panel meeting in Paris, is designed to help protect Odesa’s cultural heritage, which has been under threat since Russia’s invasion, and enable access to financial and technical international aid.

A new parcel service has been launched jointly by the Railway and Postal Departments for the first time in Tamil Nadu

  • For the first time in Tamil Nadu, a new parcel service called “Joint Parcel Product” launched jointly by the Railway and Postal Department was launched from Coimbatore on 25th January 2023.
  • Machine manufacturers can benefit greatly from this service. It has been launched to facilitate the easy shipment of heavy goods in a secure manner at a low cost.

“She Feeds the World “ Programme launched in West Bengal

  • PepsiCo Foundation, the philanthropic arm of PepsiCo and CARE, has launched the ‘She Feeds the World’ program in India to strengthen the role of small-scale women producers through sustainable training and economic support.
  • The program, which will be implemented in the Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts of West Bengal, aims to reach out to more than 48,000 women, men and children and indirectly benefit 1,50,000 individuals.

Karnataka CM launches task force to curb leopard menace in Mysuru

  • Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has launched Leopard Task Force teams to capture leopards and prevent their menace in Tirumakudalu Narasipura city.
  • In order to prevent the people’s from the continuous leopard attacks, a lot of leopards and cubs have settled in the area so the Karnataka CM launched the task force.

Appointments

New General Manager of Central Railway appointed

  • Naresh Lalwani has taken over as the new General Manager of Central Railway. He succeeds Ashok Kumar Misra, General Manager Western Railway and he is a senior officer of the Indian Railway Engineering Service of 1985 batch.
  • Before taking over as General Manager, Central Railway, he was working as Senior Deputy General Manager and Chief Vigilance Officer of Western Railway.

CEO of ONGC has been appointed

  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has been traditionally headed by a chairman and managing director as Arun Kumar Singh from December 7 2022 onwards.
  • Now he has been appointed the CEO of the company as well. It is informed that the Board at its meeting held on January 24, 2023, has appointed Singh as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for three-year tenure.

Science and Technology

Earth’s inner core has started rotating in the opposite direction Case Study

  • Xiaotong Chang and Yi Yang of Peking University, China, who studied the Earth’s core region, found that the rotation of the inner core “almost stopped in 2009 and then turned in the opposite direction.”
  • They also predict that it changed direction in the early 1970s and that the next cycle change will be in the mid-2040s. From this Study researchers said that there is a slight changes in time will happen due to the change in rotation.

SpaceX launches Falcon 9 and 56 Starlink satellites from Cape Canaveral

  • 56 Starlink Internet satellites mounted aboard a Falcon 9 rocket Another batch of SpaceX’s second-generation Starlink NET network, known as Gen2, was launched on January 26, 2023 from a Falcon 9 launcher from Cape Canaveral, continuing SpaceX’s second-generation Internet satellite deployment last December 2022.
  • After separation from the rocket, the 56 Starlink spacecraft will deploy solar arrays and run through automated activation steps, then maneuver into their operational orbits using ion engines.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

  • International Genocide Remembrance Day is observed on 27th January every year.
  • It marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945, where more than a million men, women and children were killed.
