National News

Union Health Ministry launches the country’s first suicide prevention policy

  • In order to achieve reduction in suicide mortality by 10% by 2030 the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has introduced a country’s first Suicide Prevention policy.
  • This policy is to establish effective surveillance mechanisms for suicide within the next three years, establish psychiatric outpatient departments that will provide suicide prevention services through the District Mental Health Programme in all districts within the next five years, and to integrate a mental well-being curriculum in all educational institutions within the next eight years.

National Conference on e-governance

  • The 25th National Conference on e-governance will be held in Katra, Jammu & Kashmir from 26th of November. The theme of the two-day Conference is Bringing Citizens, Industry and Government closer.
  • National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) will be presented under 5 categories of the NAeG Scheme – 2022 to 18 e-Governance initiatives at Central, State and District levels, Academic & Research Institutions and Public Sector Undertaking. This includes 9 Gold and 9 Silver Awards.

4th edition of Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue

  • The fourth edition of IPRD is scheduled to be held from 23 to 25 November 2022. The theme of IPRD-2022 is ‘Operationalising the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI)’.
  • The main aim of the IPRD is to review both opportunities and challenges that arise within the Indo-Pacific. From this annual dialogue, the Indian Navy and the NMF, continue to provide an incisive discussion of geopolitical developments affecting the maritime domain of the Indo-Pacific.

First Biodiversity Heritage Area of ​​Tamil Nadu

  • Ancient historical heritage, rare bird species, insects, fauna and ancient rocks, Kudaiwara Shiva temple, and two thousand year old Samanar basins etc. are being preserved by the archeology department of Aritapatti area in Madurai.
  • Based on this, the Government of Tamil Nadu has issued an ordinance declaring an area of 193.215 hectares comprising Aritapatti, Meenakshipuram, and Madurai District as the first Biodiversity Heritage Area of​Tamil Nadu.

Sangai Festival begins in Manipur

  • The largest tourism festival of Manipur, the Sangai Festival begins on Nov 21,2022 The festival named after the State Animal which is found only in Manipur
  • This time the festival is being held at 13 different places of Manipur to showcase the varieties of cultural items to both domestic and international tourists. The theme of the festival is ‘festival of oneness’. The ten days festival is expected to attract tourists in Manipur.

Tamil scholar Auwai Natarajan passes away

  • Auvai Natarasan, Tamilnadu‘s best educationist, holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education and is proficient in Tamil and English.
  • Auvai Natarasan (87), who served as Vice-Chancellor of Tanjore Tamil University from 1992 to 1995 and Vice-Chairman of Classical Tamil Research Institute, due to ill health, he passed away on Nov.21, 2022 in Chennai.

  • Early Presidential elections were held in Kazakhstan on 19th Nov 2022. due to the January protests, these elections were held based on the recent reforms and constitutional amendments .

  • Shri Vinit Kumar (IRSEE) is appointed as CEO, Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVlC), Mumbai under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises on 21st Nov 2022.
  • Shri Vinit Kumar, an IRSEE officer of 1993 batch, before taking over as the Chief Executive Officer of Khadi and Village Industries Commission and also served as Chief Electrical Engineer in Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd.

NASA’s Orion spacecraft

  • NASA’s Artemis-1 rocket for the lunar exploration mission was launched from the Kennedy Space Center on November 15, 2022.
  • After 5 days of rocket launch, NASA’s Orion spacecraft has entered the lunar region. The spacecraft is also calculated to travel at a high altitude above the surface of the Moon, while also traveling in the opposite direction to the direction of the Moon’s orbit around the Earth.

Gandhi Mandela Award

  • Under the government of India the Gandhi Mandela Foundation is a non-profit organization, formed with the motive to promote Mahatma Gandhi’s and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela’s values of non-violence. It has constituted an international prize called the Gandhi Mandela Award.
  • The 14th Dalai Lama was conferred the Gandhi Mandela Award 2022 at Thekchen Choeling in Dharamshala’s McleodGanj by Himachal Pradesh governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.

  • British Historian Simon Sebag Montefiore has released a new book titled ‘The World: A Family History’.
  • In that book he tells how humanity evolved by the stories of different and famous families. The two-part book, published by Hachette India, claims to capture the story of humankind.

  • Karate 1Series A tournament held in Jakarta,indonesia, In that series India’s Pranai Sharma defeated Ukraine’s David Yanovsky in the men’s 67kg final to set a record by winning the gold medal.
