National News

Indian Navy launches first INS Arnala ship

  • The first ship of the ASW SWC Project Arnala, being built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers, GRSE for the Indian Navy was launched on December 20, 2022 at Kattupalli, Chennai.
  • The ship has been named Arnala to signify the strategic maritime importance accorded to the island of Arnala located about 13 Km north of Vasai, Maharashtra by the great Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
    • The contract for building eight ASW SWC ships was signed between the Defense Ministry and GRSE, Kolkata in April 2019.

Samudhrayan Project

  • Samudhrayan project is a project to send a submersible vehicle to explore the depth of 6000 meters under the sea with humans to explore the world to the rare materials, creatures and things present inside the deep sea.
  • The National Institute of Marine Technology has also developed vehicles for the Samudhrayan project called ‘MATSYA 6000’, and the project will be completed by 2026.

International news

Taliban ban female students from Afghan universities

  • As the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan after 20 years, restrictions are being imposed on women. Women’s rights have been completely banned in Afghanistan.
  • Schools and colleges were reopened after international protests against the earlier ban on girls going to school. Following the ban on women’s education in Afghanistan, all public and private universities in Afghanistan have banned women’s education.

A 13-year-old boy has been appointed as ambassador of the Clean India Project in Madhya Pradesh’s Gadni district

  • Ashutosh Mange, a 13-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh, wrote a letter to district collector (Avi Prasad) on maintaining dustbins and public cleanliness.
  • After reading the suggestions in the boy’s letter, the District Collector of Katni has appointed the boy (Asutosh Mange) as the Clean India Program Ambassador of the district.

Speaker Gujarat assembly was elected

  • After the BJP’s victory Gujarat Legislative Assembly polls decided that BJP MLA Shankar Choudhary has been elected as the Speaker of the newly formed 15th Legislative Assembly.
  • Bhupendra Patel was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on Dec. 12, 2022. BJP MLA Jetha Parwat has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

Union minister launches country’s first Green Steel Brand in New delhi

  • Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched India’s first Green Steel Brand – KALYANI FeRRESTA in New Delhi.
  • Due to this green steel manufacturing plant India is leading the countries which have committed to achieving carbon neutrality.

A new online system for issuing license was launched in Hyderabad

  • Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, C.V.Anand launched a new online system aimed at ensuring faster approval of entertainment and amusement licenses.
  • “The new online system is in line with the State government’s EODB policy and offers accountability, transparency, ease in data retrieval and a faster approval process. From this system New licenses will be issued within 30 days and renewal applications within 15 days,”

Nepal PM Deuba elected as a leader of Nepali Congress parliamentary party

  • Nepal Prime Minister and the Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba won the parliamentary party (PP) leader election held on 20th Dec 2022, by defeating the party General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa by 39 votes. All the 89 lawmakers of the party participated in the voting.
  • Deuba, 76, secured 64 votes, while Thapa, 45, could secure only 25 votes.

Archaeological studies

500 years old Vijayanagara empire Krishnadevaraya inscription found

  • A 500-year-old inscription of Vijayanagar Empire king Krishnadevarayara has been discovered by the researchers of the Pandya Country Historical Research Center at D. Velangudi village near Narikudi, Tiruchuzhi taluka, Virudhunagar district.
  • This inscription mentions that Velangudi village was donated to Brahmins who had learned 4 Vedas by Chitrarasan Thimmannanayakar in the region during the reign of Krishnadevaraya.

Digital India Awards 2022

  • Digital India Awards are conducted by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). The seventh edition of Digital India Awards (DIA) is being held in 2022.
  • The Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs won the Platinum Icon in the Digital India Awards 2022 for their initiative “DataSmart Cities: Empowering Cities through Data” under the ‘Data Sharing and Use for Socio Economic Development’ category.

Tamil Semmal Award

  • On behalf of the Tamil Development Department, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin presented the Tamil Semmal Awards for the year 2021 to 38 Tamil Scholars and the Best interpreter Awards to 10 people.
  • Also, Prime Minister M.K.Stalin handed over a check of 5 crore rupees to Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chandisree Tulipudi Pandit for setting up a separate Department of Tamil Literature at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

  • In the batting ranking list of this list
    • Australian players Dahlia (818 points) ranks 1st position.
    • Australian player Beth Mooney (733 points) has ranked 2nd position.
    • Smriti Mandhana (733 rating point) of Indian team in 3rd
    • In this list Indian players Shabali Verma is at 6th position and Jemima is at 10th position.

    • New Zealand’s Shobi Devin (389 points) is in first place.

World Badminton Men’s Doubles Ranking List released

  • World Badminton Federation ranking list published.
  • In Men’s Doubles
    • Yuko Kobayashi and Takuro Hoki from Japan won first place
    • Fajar Albion and Muhammad Ryan Ordiento from Indonesia are in second place.
    • In third place are Malaysia’s Aaron Chia, Wooi Yik and
    • India’s Satviksairaj and Chirag Shetty are at 5th place.
  • Also in men’s singles, Indian player H.S. Pranai is ranked 9th. Kidambi Srikanth is ranked 11th place.

Women’s National Boxing Championships 2022

  • 6th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships 2022 held in Bhopal from 20th December to 26 December 2022.
  • In the first match under the 50kg category,Telangana’s Nikhat Zareen defeated Tamil nadu’s LK Abinaya in Bhopal.After that victory Nikhat Zareen will take on Meghalaya’s Eva Marbaniang in the pre-quarterfinals on 22 December 2022.

National Mathematics Day 

  • National Mathematics Day is celebrated every year on December 22 to mark the birth anniversary of legendary mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan. He was born in 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
  • The day is celebrated with the aim to make people aware of the importance of mathematics and advancements and developments made in the field.
    • In 2012, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared December 22 as National Mathematics Day and the year (2012) was celebrated as the National Mathematics Year.
