Social Progress Index (SPI)
- Economic Advisory Council-Prime Minister released the Social Progress Index for states and districts of India on 20th Dec 2022.
- The index can be calculated on the following indicators are Basic Human Needs, Foundations of Wellbeing, and Opportunity.
- Based on the SPI scores, states and districts have been ranked under six tiers of social progress.
- Tier 1: Very High Social Progress
- Tier 2: High Social Progress
- Tier 3: Upper Middle Social Progress
- Tier 4: Lower Middle Social Progress
- Tier 5: Low Social Progress
- Tier 6: Very Low Social Progress

Fifth Scorpene submarine ‘Vagir’ is Delivered to Indian Navy
- The fifth submarine of the Project –75, Kalvari Class submarines, Yard 11879 was delivered to the Indian Navy on 20 Dec 22, Project – 75 includes indigenous construction of six submarines of Scorpene design, and it is a matter of great pride that she has completed all major trials including the weapon and sensor trials in the shortest time in comparison to the earlier submarines.
- These submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with M/s Naval Group, France.

Adoption of resolutions at the UN Conference on Biodiversity Conservation collection of 20,000 crore USD for biodiversity conservation
- The 15th International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation was held in Montreal, Canada, More than 190 countries’ Representatives attended the UN conference. In this conference, the resolution to raise 20,000 crore US dollars by 2030 was passed in the UN conference.
- 17 percent land areas and 10 percent marine areas of biodiversity importance have already been declared protected areas. Currently, a target has been set to protect 30 percent of land and marine areas by 2030.
50th edition of Cape Town to Rio Race 2023
- This ocean sailing race will be flagged off from Cape Town on 2 January 2023 and will culminate at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The race is one of the most prestigious Trans-Atlantic ocean races.
- Indian Navy’s sailboat INSV Tarini has set sail for an expedition to Cape Town, South Africa for participating in the 50th edition of Cape to Rio Race 2023.
First picture of King Charles banknotes revealed
- The new look of banknotes featuring the image of King Charles has been unveiled by the Bank of England.
- The portrait will be the only change to existing designs of £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes and will start to enter circulation from mid of the year -2024.

Indian Dance Festival 2022
- Indian Dance Festival 2022 will be held from December 23, 2022 to January 12, 2023 at Mamallapuram Beach Temple Complex, Chennai theevu thidal.
- Spectacular performances by more than 63 troupes will be performed at the festival, including Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Manipuri, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Karagam, Kavadi, Dhapattam, Wailattam and other state folk arts.
- Mamallapuram Dance Festival was introduced in 1992 and is currently being named as the Indian Dance Festival.
Gujarat CM Unveils the logo, website, and social media of Urban- 20
- Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel unveiled the logo, website and social media handles of the Urban-20 conference in Gandhi nagar.
- The UNESCO heritage city Ahmedabad will host the Urban 20 cycles as part of G 20 meetings between February to July, 2023.
- Urban-20 (U20), one of the Engagement Groups of G20, provides a platform for cities from G20 countries to facilitate discussions on various important issues of urban development including climate change, social inclusion, sustainable mobility, affordable housing,etc.

India’s first-ever Surety Bond Insurance products from Bajaj Allianz
- Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has launched one of India’s first-ever Surety Bond Insurance products from Bajaj Allianz.
- Insurance will play an important role in this growth; Surety Bond Insurance will act as a security arrangement for infrastructure projects and will insulate the contractor as well as the principal.

Chairman of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) was Appointed
- Senior nuclear scientist Dinesh Kumar Shukla has been appointed as the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
- While G. Nageswara Rao was the Chairman of AERB, Dinesh Kumar Shukla, who was its Executive Director, has been appointed as the new Chairman. He will hold the post for three consecutive years, according to the central government.
- He completed the graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Jabalpur University; Shukla joined the nuclear industry in 1981 and served as a consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on matters related to research reactor safety.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kilo force was appointed
- Major General Mohit Seth took the charge as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Counter Insurgency Force Kilo on 20th Dec
- Major General Sanjiv Singh Slaria moves to Headquarter Northern Command, Udhampur. After him Major General Mohit Seth took the charge as the General Officer Commanding (GOC).
Former Australian PM Kevin Rudd appointed ambassador to US
- Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the appointment of Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as the nation’s next ambassador to the United States on 20th December 2022.
- Rudd served as prime minister from 2007 to 2010 and he served as foreign minister from 2010 to 2012.

Tamil Nadu Government Interpreter Award 2021
- Child writer S.Sukumaran, originally from Sathankulam, Tuticorin district, has been nominated for Tamil Nadu Government’s Translator Award for the year 2021.
- Translated 12 world-famous children’s novels (Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland,Adventures of Tamsawyer)into Tamil. He has written 51 books so far.
- He has received many awards for his works in children’s literature such as A. Valliappa Award, Tirupur Tamil Sangha Award, State Bank Literary Award, Arts and Literature Council Award.
International Textile Conference 2022
- According to ‘Brands Under sourcing Leaders Association’, the export business from India is worth 2.26 lakh crore rupees. On behalf of this organization, the International Textile Conference was held in Delhi for two days.
- Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Indian Exporters Federation President (PIO) Sakthivel at the International Textile Conference held in Delhi.
- In this, Sakthivel, President of the Federation of Indian Exporters (PIO), was conferred with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for his 35 years of service in textile, ready-made garment export trade and community work.

T20 World Cup for Blind 2022
- India defeated Bangladesh in the final match of the T20 World Cup for Blind. They registered their third title of the tournament. In the match, India beat with a huge margin of 120 runs.
- Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has appreciated the Indian national blind cricket team on their third consecutive win at the T20 World Cup for Blind.
