Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar today inaugurated Swachhata Pakhwada

  • This Swachhata Pakhwada organised by National Cadet Corps (NCC) at India Gate
  • The theme of this Swachhata Pakhwada is ‘Clean India, Green India, Yeh Hai Mera Dream India’.
  • The NCC organized in 26 teams, will also carry out plogging from ‘C hexagon’ of India Gate to Vijay Path from 18 Jan to 29 Jan 2021 and in doing so, spread awareness about the importance of cleanliness.

India, Japan inks agreement on movement of ‘skilled workers’

India and Japan signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on basic framework for aprtnership

  • The MoC will help to promote the movement of skilled workers from India to Japan.

TRIFED inks MoU with IFFDC to work together for the welfare of Tribal People

The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Farm Forestry Development Co-operative Ltd (IFFDC) to promote livelihood generation of tribal people.

  • IFFDC will also assist in promoting tribal FPOs and will provide trainings to TRIFED promoted/linked Community Organizations/Members.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been designated as the new chairman of the Shree Somnath Trust (SST).

  • This trust located near Veravalat at Prabhas Patan town of Gir-Somnath district in Gujarat.
  • The Chairman post was vacant after the death of Keshubhai Patel, former chief minister of Gujarat, in October 2020.
  • After this appointment PM Modi becomes the second PM holding this post after Morarji Desai.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni won the presidential election for sixth term

Uganda’s incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has won the country’s presidential election for 2021 with 5.85 million votes. He won sixth term as president.

  • He is serving as the President of the Republic of Uganda since 1986
  • He is also one of Africa’s longest-serving presidents.

India, France conduct bilateral air exercise Ex Desert Knight-21 at Jodhpur

Indian Air Force (IAF) and French Air and Space Force will conduct a bilateral Air exercise named Ex Desert Knight-21.

  • The Exercise was conducted at Air Force Station Jodhpur
  • The Indian Air Force aircraft participated in the exercise were including Mirage 2000, Su-30 MKI, Rafale, IL-78 Flight Refuelling Aircraft, AWACS and AEW&C aircraft.

DRDO develops Motor Bike Ambulance named ‘Rakshita’ for CRPF

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed Motor Bike Ambulance ‘Rakshita’ bike-based casualty transport emergency vehicle

  • DRDO handed over Rakshita to Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
  • The bike ambulance will be used for evacuation of injured personnel of the Central Armed Police Force.

India to procure 21 MiG-29 and 12 Sukhoi fighter jets from Russia

India is set to procure 21 MiG-29 and 12 Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft from Russia.

  • The Request for Proposal (RFP) will soon be issued to Russian state-run defence export arm Rosoboronexport
  • The new set of 21 MiG-29 will add to existing 59 such jets already with the Indian Air Force and the 12 Sukhoi-30MKIs,
  • Earlier, Defence Ministry has approved capital acquisitions of various platforms and equipment worth Rs. 38,900 crore

The Yonex Thailand Open Super 1000 badminton tournament was concluded. The Tournament was scheduled from 12 to 17 January 2021.

  • It was the first badminton tournament of 2021 by Badminton World Federation (BWF).
  • Men’s single title is won by Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen and women’s title is won by Spain’s Carolina Marin
