‘MORMUGAO’ warship to be inducted into Indian Navy

  • Warship Mormugao will be inducted into the Indian Navy by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at a ceremony in Mumbai on December 18, 2022.
  • Indian Navy has INS Mormugao warship equipped with modern radar, surface-to-surface missile, and surface-to-air missile,The warship destroyer is completely indigenously designed and built in India.
    • The length of this vessel is 163 meters and breadth is 17 meters. It weighs 7,400 tonnes at full capacity

India Energy Week 2023

  • India Energy Week 2023 is being organized during India’s G20 Presidency, under the tagline “Growth, Collaboration, Transition”, from 6-8 February 2023 in Bangalore and On 16th December 2022, Curtain Raiser Programme of 1st edition of India Energy Week 2023 held in Bangalore.
  • It will provide a unique opportunity to showcase India as both an engine of global economic growth and a driver for global consumption, supported by a conducive and investment-friendly environment, and a skilled workforce.

PM to lays the various development projects in Tripura

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Meghalaya and Tripura on 18th December.
    • In Meghalaya, the PM will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stone of multiple projects worth over Rs. 2450 crores.
    • In Tripura PM will inaugurate, dedicate and lay the foundation stone of various key initiatives worth over Rs. 4350 crores.
    • The Prime Minister will inaugurate the project for widening of the Agartala bypass (Khayerpur – Amtali) NH-08, which will help ease traffic congestion in Agartala city.

25th Eastern Zonal Council meeting

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah presided over the 25th Eastern Zonal Council meeting at Kolkata on 17 December 2022.

Iran removed from UN Women’s Rights Organization

  • Iran was expelled from the UN Women’s Rights Organization due to human rights violations against women during the ongoing hijab protests in Iran.
  • While 29 countries voted in favor of this resolution and 8 countries voted against it, a total of 16 countries, including India, did not participate in this referendum.

Union Minister inaugurates new facilities at ICMR-NARFBR in Hyderabad

  • Union Health and Family Welfare minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya on 17th Dec 2022 inaugurated new facilities at the National Animal Resource Facility for Biomedical Research.
  • It is located in Genome Valley, Hyderabad’s biotech hub and Spread over 100 acres and 20 buildings, the facility will serve as a one-stop centre for basic, applied and regulatory animal studies in India.

48th GST Council Meeting

  • Smt Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, chaired the meeting, along with the Finance Ministers of the states/Union 48th GST Council Meeting Territories held on 17th December 2022.
  • The meeting will discuss the imposition of 28% GST on online gaming, casinos and horse racing.

Leo Varadkar is re-elected as Prime Minister of Ireland

  • Indian-origin Leo Varadkar will be re-elected for a second term as Prime Minister of Ireland on December 17, 2022.
  • Leo Varadkar, who was currently the Deputy Prime Minister, will take over as the Prime Minister again, and Varadkar will serve as the Prime Minister of Ireland from 2017 to 2020.
    • After the 2020 election, current Prime Minister Michael Martin’s party and Varadkar’s party formed a coalition government. At that time, an agreement was made to hold the post of prime minister in rotation.

Interim Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court was appointed

  • AK Singh has been appointed as Interim Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Following the retirement of Justice Ravi Ranjan, Justice AK Singh has been appointed as the Interim Chief Justice.

NMDC wins IEI Industry Excellence Award 2022

  • National Miner NMDC won the coveted IEI (Institution of Engineers, India) Industry Excellence Award 2022 on Friday 16th December, 2022 in Chennai.
  • After reviewing the business operations, financial performance, environmental performance, research and development, CSR and corporate governance policies of a company, NMDC won the Industry Excellence Award 2022.

Madurai Aravind Eye Hospital has been awarded the Green Hospital Award

  • Madurai Aravind Eye Hospital has been awarded the Green Hospital Award by Global Green healthy Hospitals (GGHH) for reducing environmental pollution of water and electricity consumption.
  • Madurai Aravind Eye Hospital uses high efficiency air conditioners, pumps, LEDs, lamps and fans to consume less electricity. As a result, electricity consumption has decreased by 25 to 30 percent. In recognition of this, the Global Green Hospital Organization has given an award for 2022.

Goa Liberation Day

  • Goa Liberation Day, observed every year on December 19 in India.
  • Goa is one of India’s smallest states and was previously under Portuguese possession for about 450 years.
  • The Goa Liberation Day is a celebration of the day Indian armed forces freed Goa from Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961.
