International Day of Older Persons On 14 December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly (by resolution 45/106) designated 1 October the International Day of Older Persons. The International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of ageing in today’s world.

2019 Theme: “The Journey to Age Equality”

October 01 World Vegetarian Day World Vegetarian Day is celebrated annually on October 1. The day brings global attention to the health and environmental benefits of vegetarianism and focuses on the ethics of following a vegetarian lifestyle. World Vegetarian Day was founded in 1977 by the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS) and was endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978.
October 02 International Day of Non-Violence The International Day of Non-Violence is marked on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. According to General Assembly resolution A/RES/61/271 of 15 June 2007, which established the commemoration, the International Day is an occasion to “disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness”
October 04 World Animal Day World Animal Day is celebrated across the world on 4rth October and is totally dedicated to the animals. This day celebrated the relationship between humankind and the animal kingdom and to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe.
October 05 World Teachers’ Day World Teachers’ Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is held every year on October 5 to honor teachers and recognize their contributions to education and development.

October 06 World Cerebral Palsy Day World Cerebral Palsy Day (WCPY) is observed on 6th October. Cerebral palsy refers to a group of neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect body movement and muscle coordination. The project was launched in 2012 by Cerebral Palsy Alliance (Australia) and United Cerebral Palsy (USA).
October 07 World Habitat Day The United Nations designated the first Monday of October of every year as World Habitat Day to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. The Day is also intended to remind the world that we all have the power and the responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns.

October 08 World Octopus Day World Octopus Day is an annual observance celebrated on October 8th of every year. It’s a day for those Octopus enthusiasts. It is vital to celebrate the most distinctive animals of the planet with a day. October 8, 2007, marks the first commemoration of World Octopus Day.
October 09 World Post Day World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969

World Mental Health Day World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.  Theme: Focus on suicide prevention
October 10 World Sight Day Established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000, World Sight Day is the main advocacy event for raising awareness about blindness and vision impairment for VISION 2020: The Right to Sight, a global initiative created by WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).
October 11 International Day of the Girl Child Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl. The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights.

October 12 World Migratory Bird day Every year, World Migratory Bird Day presents an annual theme aiming to raise awareness of issues affecting migratory birds and to inspire people and organizations around the world to take measures for their conservation.

October 13 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was started in 1989, after a call by the United Nations General Assembly for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction. 2019 Theme: Reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services.
October 15 International Day of Rural Women The first International Day of Rural Women was observed on 15 October 2008. This new international day, established by the General Assembly in its resolution 62/136 of 18 December 2007, recognizes “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.”

2019 Theme: Rural Women and Girls Building Climate Resilience

October 16 World Food Day World Food Day is a day of action dedicated to tackling global hunger. Held annually on 16th October, people from around the world come together to declare their commitment to eradicate worldwide hunger from our lifetime.

Theme : Our Actions Are Our Future Healthy Diets for A #Zero Hunger World.”

October 17 International Day for the Eradication of Poverty The observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty can be traced back to 17 October 1987. On that day, over a hundred thousand people gathered at the Trocadéro in Paris, where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948, to honour the victims of extreme poverty, violence and hunger.

Theme: “Acting together to empower children, their families and communities to end poverty”

October 20 World Statistics Day The UN General Assembly decided with resolution 69/282 to celebrate the day every five years. The first World Statistics Day was celebrated in 2010. Last this day was celebrated in 2015. The next World Statistics Day will be celebrated on 20 October 2020.

Theme of the year 2015: Better Data, Better Lives

October 24 United Nations Day UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday
October 25 International Artist Day International Artist’s Day is celebrated annually on October 25. International Artist Day was launched in 2004 to honor the contribution artists make to society. International Artist Day has grown steadily in popularity around the world, and over the last few years has taken on a life of its own.
October 27 World Day for Audiovisual Heritage The General Conference of UNESCO approved the commemoration of a World Day for Audiovisual Heritage in 2005 as a mechanism to raise general awareness of the need to preserve and safeguard important audiovisual material for future generations, and for urgent measures to be taken to conserve this heritage and ensure it remains accessible to the public now, and to future generations.

October 28 International Animation Day October 28 is International Animation Day. It’s a day to recognize and celebrate the artists, the scientists and the technicians behind animated art including animated movies.Created by the International Animated Film Association (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation) in 2002, the unofficial holiday commemorates the day in 1892 when Charles-Emile Reynaud’s Theatre Optique made its first public appearance at the Grevin Museum in Paris, France.
October 29 International Internet Day International Internet Day is celebrated worldwide, every year on 29th of October. Since the year 2005 the International Internet Day has been famously celebrated to commemorate a momentous day in the history of telecommunications and technology. This was the event of the sending of the first message, first electronic message which was transferred from one computer to another in 1969.
October 29 World Psoriasis Day IFPA presents World Psoriasis Day as an annual day dedicated to people with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis. It has been celebrated on October 29 for more than a decade. On World Psoriasis Day, our member associations and their supporters organize activities around the world to raise awareness of psoriasis.
October 29 World Stroke Day World Stroke Day is observed on October 29 to underscore the serious nature and high rates of stroke, raise awareness of the prevention and treatment of the condition, and ensure better care and support for survivors. On this day, organizations around the world have facilitated events emphasizing education, testing, and initiatives to improve the damaging effects of stroke worldwide. The annual event was started in 2006 by the World Stroke Organization(WSO)and the WSO declared stroke a public health emergency in 2010
October 31 World Cities Day

The United Nations General Assembly has designated the 31st of October as World Cities Day, by its resolution 68/239. The Day is expected to greatly promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world.
