Zeba’ to the rescue of Rayalaseema farmers

  • Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the government was enhancing the moisture retention capacity of soil by using a chemical product called ‘Zeba’ on a pilot basis in Rayalaseema.

PM Modi to inaugurate statue of Patel on Oct 31

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the gigantic statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Narmada district of Gujarat on 31st of October. The day marks the anniversary of the great leader and freedom fighter.

Technology to convert waste plastic into fuel

  • The NIT-C and the FACT Engineering Design and Organisation (FEDO), the consultancy division of Kochi-based FACT Ltd, have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the design and implementation of a pilot plant for converting waste plastic into energy.

  • In Uttar Pradesh, the Iconic ‘Hazratganj Chauraha’ of Lucknow city will be renamed after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as ‘Atal Chowk’.

4% reduction in VAT on petrol & diesel

  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced a four-per cent reduction in value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel, which will reduce their prices by 2.5 rupees per litre in the state.

  • The India-U.S. foundational agreement for mutual logistics support, the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA), has been fully operationalised.

IISER Bhopal develops organic solar cell using vitamin B12 derivative

  • Researchers at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal have developed cheaper and more flexible organic solar cells using a synthetic derivative of vitamin B12.

Aptamer inhibits TB bacteria entry into cells

  • A small single-stranded DNA molecule (DNA aptamer) that specifically binds to a single protein (HupB) present in TB bacteria, researchers have been able to achieve 40-55% reduction in the bacteria’s ability to enter into human cells and infect them.

Electrochemical sensor detects dopamine, paracetamol

  • A team from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, has come up with a nanocomposite material made of platinum-doped cerium oxide and cuprous oxide that works efficiently in electrochemical cells to detect dopamine and paracetamol levels, in combination, in spiked human urine and serum samples.
