  • In 2007 the United Nations General Assembly resolved to observe 15 September as the International Day of Democracy with the purpose of promoting and upholding the principles of democracy.

September 16 – International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

  • September 16 was designated by the UN General Assembly as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. This designation had been made in commemoration of the date, in 1987, on which nations signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

  • The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C42) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched two satellites NovaSAR and S1-4- from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Sriharikota.

Insect-inspired flying robot

  • Scientists have now developed a novel autonomous flying robot named DelFly Nimble that mimics the rapid flight of insects.

NASA puts laser satellite in space to track ice loss

  • NASA’s most advanced space laser satellite ICESat-2 launched on a mission to track ice loss around the world (Greenland and Antarctic sheets) and improve forecasts of sea level rise as the climate warms.
